You do remember correctly. But I use the Z for that sort of work, the best gear I have. I only use my K1mkII for gallery installation shots if I need super UWA, so the 15-30. I use that as little as possible, though, since you get the stretching distortion. But the K1mkII is a great device, and so it is an acceptable backup for my Z. I have primes for best distortion performance.
I typically use my K1mkII at work for installations documentation: for instance how a bolt seats in a sculpture, conditioning reports, details of an assembly, electronics, a sequence of steps, & etc. Sometimes I've got the camera slung on my back while I'm simultaneously installing something. Sometimes these aren't art works, but construction related items like the glass doors I'll be installing this week, previously documented and now in a pdf instruction manual.
Also this week I'll be using the K1mkII to do time lapse of
the installation of a scrim around the scaffolding that is currently surrounding our building as we do major repairs to it. Done 2 days so far, another 1-2 tomorrow and Wednesday. I've used the time lapse functions multiple times over the last several years.
So, for these more prosaic shots, the K1mkII is great and the 24-105 would be better than the 24-70 for me. For this kind of work I almost always need the lens stopped down for all things to be in acceptable focus. Thus a slower lens is no issue at all. If I know I need isolation then I have lenses that do that.
