The RICOH GR IIIx has been developed in response to user requests for a new GR-series camera that will add a new perspective to the highly acclaimed RICOH GR III. The GR III was released in March 2019, featuring a 28mm wide-angle lens and designed to further enhance the essential values of the GR-series: optimizing image quality, snapshot capabilities and portability. The newly designed 26.1mm GR lens provides a 40mm angle of view in the 35mm format, close to the photographer’s own effective field of view. Depending on the way the lens is used, this versatile angle of view can create different image renditions: you can capture an image similar to those taken at a 30mm semi-wide angle, or create a completely different visual expression as if taken at a 50mm standard angle. The camera also provides a range of new and upgraded post-shooting functions to edit captured images to the photographer’s preference.

I just saw this independently. Looks exciting! There's also a new teleconverter announced along with it, brings the effective focal length to 75mm (with the 50mm crop) or 105mm (with the 71mm crop). My guess is there is vignetting that makes the regular uncropped 40mm mode not work with the teleconverter, but if by chance it does, that would be a 60mm.

Also a GV-3 40mm compact optical viewfinder to go along with the GV-1 and GV-2. It'll remain to be seen how easy it is to see through, I found the GV-2 to be difficult with glasses.

Just going through the press release. They claim Face and Eye detection, that will be delivered to the regular GR III via firmware update.

Interesting that is shows up on the EU site but not the Japan site first. Could be someone jumped the gun?

And a first look from Kai and Lok, so be warned about the usual silliness:

They are showing a new tele converter lens here, which givesa 75mm equivalent view. It's new as well.
TELE CONVERSION LENS GT-2

I think this new camera and teleconverter is a great move by Ricoh. So many people have said they's want a GR if it had a longer focal length.

If you go crazy and buy both cameras and converter lenses, it's like having a system that goes from 21mm to 75mm.

Exciting! I was just looking at Fuji options for a second compact camera with a normalish FL when I came across Kai and Lok’s video independently. I think I’d prefer the pocketability (and IS) of this over the x100 series or a x-e4 w/27mm pancake. Well done, Ricoh!

That TC gives the 75mm eq when the camera crop mode is set to 50mm, though.

I don't understand math here. On the body of converter there is mark 1.5X. Focal length 26.1 with 1.5 converter gives 39.15 mm. To adjust focal lens to to 35 mm (full frame) 39.15* 1.5 = 58.725mm. Where 75 mm is taken I did not get. But anyway camera with lens 26 mm sounds good. For my test it is it very appealing.

The crop factor on this sensor is 1.53.
26.1x1.53=39.933

Crop mode on a crop sensor with a 1.5x converter converted to FF equivalent. I can understand your confusion. Told me a while too.
