Somehow I don't see either getting me to trade in my Bigma 50-500 , it is much sharper than the 170-500... and only a little heavier.

Sure but it suggest the 50-500 may come soon in HSM.

I've looked at the longer Sigma zooms for some time, but am disappointed by the slow lens speeds. With our frequent and persistent cloud cover here in the Pacific NW, we often need f/2.8 to get any decent shutter speeds at reasonable ISOs. It's nice to see the HSM coming to more Pentax-mount Sigmas, but these are still too slow to meet my needs.

How does the sharpness of the 170-500 come into play here? Was that a typo or is there some reason to believe that these lenses have similar sharpness to the 170-500?

Fully agree with this.
Would love to see a HSM update to Sigma“s 500mm/4,5 K-mount version.

I tried the 120-400 OS on Nikon mount, no great loss if this was never released on Pentax mount anyway...

I had been waiting on the 120-400 sdm lens for quite some time. I called sigma to inquire and they put that lens on the back burner. They show NO release date through 2009.

Interesting? I will need to call Sigma USA back. I wonder if Sigma / Japan is on s different schedule? That lens image by the way is a Nikon Mount I believe.

they started shipping in Sony mount, so i guess Pentax is right around the bend. BTW what's so special about the Bigma? I didn't like it at all.
