I think that contrast and micro contrast are every bit as important as sharpness. Lenses with low contrast, like the FA 50 look softer, even if they actually resolve pretty decently. You can bump up contrast in post to a certain extent, but it isn't the same.
An image with proper exposure that needs little work will look better than a heavily manipulated image. It's a mistake to think PP can rescue poor exposures and turn them into spectacular images. It might turn them into acceptable images. The properly exposed already compelling image will always be better in the end.

Oh no, it is correctly exposed for the sky, just that there was quite a bit of contrast in the scene.
My Irix reports what would be the correct exposure when it's misbehaving. It's just that the mechanics don't obey what the electronics are telling them to do!

The DA 15 limited actually isn't particularly sharp on the borders, but it has very nice contrast and colors and these make its images pop even though if you scan the corners you find that things are a bit blurry.

Then it's your lens, because my copy got the exposure it should have. If it were at f/22 it would have been horribly underexposed everywhere...
I just checked several bursts at several apertures and the shutter speeds are all as they should be.

Yup, these Irix lenses are a crap shoot.

Yours is the first one I hear about having problems of that kind, and I wouldn't have bought mine if the reviews everywhere hadn't indicated that it's... well, not a crap shoot

Interesting extrapolation from sample size: 1.

Everywhere? Nope! There are several complaining where the pins do not connect properly, and one unfortunate user who took one on a big trip, only to have it fail completely. The lens is a lot of dead weight to carry around!

Interesting undercount of the sample size. My assessment factors in what has been reported in various online reviews.

Well, I haven't found any of those. Can you please point to them?
There are at least two or three reviews of a DFA 150-450 literally coming apart. Clearly every lens ever made by Pentax is a crapshoot that is a wave function away from disintegrating?

One comment - not a review, in truth; and without followup regarding repairs, customer support etc. To top it off, what's described is an issue that could happen with any lens since it seems to come from a contact issue?

I get that you had a bad experience with your copy, and it's unfortunate, but... you're not really making a convincing case. I'll leave it here so as to not derail the thread further.
