Ouch.

I guess I will wait for people to unload their old FA 20mm to fund this purchase.

I would love to have this, but that price is out of reach.

I'm rooting for a 58mm f/1.7, there is a gap between the DFA*50 and the 77, or (in Limiteds) between 43 and 77
Announcement expected in 2027

Same here, I can't justify it, neither would I be able to actually use it with peace of mind

No published MTF or am I missing something? Pentax has published mtf for all recent lenses. Perhaps the Limiteds are off limits to "numbers" even in terms of showing them.

Price is about the same as the Zeiss Milvus 21 right? That number is hard to forget Pentax is moving with the big girls now.

An exciting addition to the Pentax FF lens line-up and a reason to celebrate, both the fact of a new FF lens and what it will likely offer.

But it also confirms me in sticking with my APS-C system. Seriously, for that kind of money - which may be well justified in the FF context, I don't doubt that for a second - I would get the mother of all APS-C wideangle zooms, the DA*11-18, or two to three of the existing DA Limiteds brandnew, to say nothing of the bulk and weight of an equivalent FL kit. (Not that I would have that kind of photo budget without serious and prolonged saving anyway.)

Mind you, before I'm ripped apart, not begrudging anybody anything, just thinking aloud. May the new FA Limited find many friends and help creating enough revenue to help Ricoh with renovating and further enhancing their APS-C line-up too. There are quite a few old-SDM corpses to replace, which is why the new DA*16-50 is so welcome, and the DA Limited primes could use a WR do-up too. (I know that I'm complaining from a position of comfort, with all that we already have, but we're entitled to our various dreams, aren't we?)
I'm also in the "glad it exists for the FF folks, but as an APS-C shooter it doesn't make any sense" camp. I have both the DA 21 f/3.2 LTD and the 20-40 LTD, so this would bring only marginal gains for a whopping big pricetag. You could probably buy a full set of excellent condition/used DA limiteds (15/21/35/40/70) for the new cost of this lens.

At one point I said my most wanted lens was the DA21 LTD with WR. But I came to the conclusion that the APS-C solution to that was the 20-40 LTD, and it still is.

The 20-40 is also the better lens.

Thanks for the links!

Boy, I just love Ricoh's Special Sites - they radiate all that Pentax is about now; I love reading all the details, looking at the images - I'm sold! I have the other three Limiteds, so how could I not add this one?

Let's just hope that they don't make themselves as irrelevant as the Contax became at the end.

I would never have thought of that notion. Not sure how it is related to the introduction of this new fantastic lens. No need for hope.

Maybe a DFA Limited 50mm f1.7. About the size and weight of the FA77 and 2/3 the price of the DFA*.

I'd be willing to accept 0.5x to keep sizes down.

Actually they did design a FA 90/3.5 Macro Limited in the film days that never saw the light of day. It went to 0.5x but either a close focusing lens or an extension tube that made it go to 1:1, was to be included with the lens.
