This looks INCREDIBLE!

The bokeh in those sample images is to die for.

So the hood is permanent, outside the filter rings... might make polarizers interesting... might be OK...

And it's KAF4, so might want to update the K10

It's a good looking piece, though, and I do like the bokeh in the samples... and the samples in general...

Nice looking lens, but I have so many lenses that over lap that Focal Length. (15 f4, 16-45 f4, 20-40 f2.8-4, 10-17 f3.5-4.5(fisheye))

What I am hearing is there will be one more lens available for the rest of us to buy

The specs and the statement of intent sound extremely promising. 21mm is a nice focal length. It's nicely wide for expansive landscapes but not so ultra-wide that it will have so much of the unavoidable distortions of rectilinear ultra-wide lenses.

I love the idea of the close-focus performance -- 0.26X will fill the frame with a 4" x 6" subject space which would work nicely for many kinds of scenes with flowers, mushrooms, and mossy mini-landscapes.

What I await is an astrophotography image @ f/2.4. That will show just how sharp they made the corners and whether the lens will do nicely for Milky Way images.

How many of those cover full frame?

I have the 20-40 Limited and the DA* 16-50 (last year's), but the DF-A 21 is something very different... and a lot more useful on a K1...

Since it is DC and KAF4, does that mean it will autofocus and change aperture while shooting video?
That would be something handy, even on APS-C, if you're into that...

Wow! expensive...

Looks like a FA31ltd.

I am not convinced yet with the photo samples. Small objects shot near will often give enough OOF backgrounds.
Need to see people shots (up to half body ) and see what sort of in focus / oof relationship it gives for a photo.

Nonetheless, really superb looking lens and like all limiteds, a balance of the size, build and fast aperture as to make it still highly portable for a 21mm lens with f2.4
I will be looking out for one (depending on the price locally of course )

I'm a bit confused by Ricoh's recent product launch strategy. With the GR IIIx we saw an official announcement in Japan and Europe, followed by the US announcement about a week later, along with asynchronous pre-order availability.

Now we have this lens, supposedly available for sale in Japan and now also Europe, but no press release or official announcement anywhere. Am I missing something?

They can’t ship to America without them getting stuck on a container ship somewhere.

Man, awesome looking lens. Still saving up my pennies for strobes and some other glass but that looks like an incredible walk around lens.
