That is correct. The Sony system is "open", luckily, meaning that what the lens needs to supply is known, but Pentax lenses do not supply all this info by themselves, so the makers of the adapter need to embed this extra information for each lens (which in turn means "learning" all that information). Then the adapter needs to recognize the lens and supply the info accordingly.
