Some Nikon cameras allow a Garmin GPS system to be connected and use it to record the coordinates. I'd prefer this (simple!) solution over a GPS receiver and antenna in the camera.

We got that insert ad last weekend printed with the info from the only BnM in town that sells Pentax. It's printed on yellow paper, no less!

I was hoping for at least a mention of Pentax somewhere on a back page or something...nope...100% Nikon :ugh:
Camera stores have overcommitted to Nikon pre-orders and are now desperate to sell them and this means they dont sell Pentax any more? Obviously they stopped selling Canon, Oly, Sony, Panasonic and everything else too.

I think here in the US - Canon is Coke, Nikon is Pepsi, and Pentax/Sony/Olympus (Pensonoly) are RC cola.

I just came upon this thread. This addition piques my interest more than the wireless built into the Samsung grip. As I wanted to capitalize on the end-of-year promotion, I'm hoping I'll be able to do so with whatever diddy is announced. But also having a handheld GPS, I also know how 'limited' they are when compact size, and how important the antenna is to good functionality. I wonder if it'll be reliably useful.

3rd party gps add-on for both Nikon and Canon - why not Pentax K20D?

QuoteOriginally posted by kristoffon Quote
There's a GPS for Nikons that goes on the flash mount. Its not really cheap. I think that's a pretty silly feature for a camera since it'll drive cost/price up and most people shooting with a DSLR won't care... The few who do could have as add-on or simply carry a GPS along and check the timestamps..
Hey folks, I just found this:

GPS Adapter for Nikon D200 D3 D700 D300 Fuji S5 MC-35 - eBay (item 350108899014 end time Jan-09-09 20:36:27 PST)

Why isn't something like this available for the Pentax K20D?

I would buy this in a heartbeat if it were available!

We have just been informed on the UK Pentax forum that the GPS K20D is infact just a plain body with a add on GPS unit (an extra £25).

Called Pentax US in Golden, CO. Spent some time waiting while the customer service rep tried to find someone that knew anything about it. Nothing!! As usual they are either in the dark ( seems to be their preferred state of mind) or there is no formal announcement yet.

The information came from a UK Pentax pro dealer who said he will be getting a very small stock today/tomorrow.

I don't know. For some reason, I can just imagine some guys in a board room in Tokyo drinking sake and laughing their arses off at us.

I don't think they would need the Sake to do that, they only have to look at our economy atm

If the k30D comes with GPS, does that mean the location name will be saved as part of the EXIF info?
