I would agree the AF and image quality would be vastly better but so would the price be vastly higher.

Nobody is cross-shopping a DA*300 + HD DA 1.4x TC combo versus the lens in question.

I think the only reason this lens is being brought to attention by Kenko is to try and show that Tokina isn't actually dead. I don't think this is very convincing. I don't understand what happened to this company in the last five-ish years but it's starting to look quite doomed.

Seems pretty much dead indeed.

Since 2018 they have announced 11 lenses, not counting this one.

Half of those are recycled Viltrox lenses, the others are recycled internal designs or (and this is rich) the 100mm f2.8 Pentax Macro that originated as part of the F series of lenses. I don't think any of those are new; the 11-16 is their old 11-16 with an updated housing and probably coatings, I believe.

from the list my attention was drawn to fx for Nikon 70-200 / 4, I used on APSC Pentax: Pentax DA*50-135 / 2.8 + DA12-24 / 4 + DFA100 / 2.8 macro wr,but that was 4 years ago, so Tokina is dead in af K mount just like Sigma and Tamron, it's nothing new, nothing

Concerning photographic lenses, the latest (last?) original design in Tokina's portfolio is the FíRIN 20mm f/2 FE MF announced in September 2016, more than five years ago. Any and all Tokina lenses announced since then are rebranded / rehoused / rehashed lenses, as explained by @pres589.

Yet, in the meantime, Tokina has announced 21 cinema lenses, of which 12 seem to be original designs since their specifications, in particular their optical formula, differ from those of comparable lenses proposed by other manufacturers:
  • 11 Cinema Prime T/1.5 lenses:18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 29mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 85mm, 105mm and 135mm (VistaVision format; image circle diameter = 46.7mm)
  • one Cinema zoom lens: 25-75 mm T/2,9 (Super35+ format; image circle diameter = 36mm).

So no, they are not dead, simply they are devoting their R&D to cinema lenses, not photographic lenses.

I held the 105 and it is a thing to appreciate, that and the cost shy of $10,000 can

FWIW, the PetaPixel headline changed from "Tokina Unveils..." to "Kenko Unveils...".

Does anyone know why the T-mount Tokina 500mm F8 Reflex telephoto lens has only been announced for six mounts, i.e., why the Pentax mount has been left out?

There is a graphic showing adapters for six mounts, but Pentax is not included, even though surely T-mount to K-mount adapters still exist.

if Tokina doesn't do lenses with K mount and I use a camera with such a thread then I see no reason and need to mention Tokina in any parallel with Pentax, like talking about Sigma having 150-600 / 5-6,3 Leica and Sony mount, hey what does that have to do with Pentax and K mount, neither Tokina nor Sigma has anything to do with Pentax at the moment, so in the topic about Pentax Tokina is dead, maybe under various things about Tokina lenses, but there is no point in the Pentax theme, only in the sense of the old glory of Tokin's lentils in K mount

Don’t despair. A T2 K-mount adapter is easy to find. None of the other mounts is built in, they all use the t2 mount.
