New Ultra-Wide lens for Pentax FF...

Irix has just produced a low-cost, ultra-wide for Pentax with a great, wide aperture:

Obiektyw Irix 21mm f/1.4 Dragonfly for Pentax

might be a great lens for astro at f1.4.

Pros: Weather-sealed, wide aperture, and inexpensive.

Cons: Heavy and not yet tested. Probably cannot take front filters.

Great to have some choice (and competition) - it'll be interesting to see how it stands up against the D FA* 21mm f2.4

thanks for sharing

Interesting new but heavy option, fast, no filter thread, wr, auto exposure mode and exif data support, not too expensive. Nice. Thanks for the info!

Only $906.30! With TWO lens hoods.

Unfortunately no fstop markings for DOF focusing. The Irix 11 has that, as does every Takumar. Important for WA lenses.

Are the two lens hoods for aps and full frame use?

I think I'll continue to use my SMC Tak 20, Samyang 20, and 21 DA Limited instead.

This was showing as a cine lens, and on the U.S. site it is listed as T1.5 (?). So, for stills I'd say the DFA 21 is going to be the better bet, since it will have AF. Also, currently lists for $1,195usd

Minimum focusing distance 30cm. So for short distances there’s a clear advantage for the DFA21 and it‘s around half the weight.

Thank you. You might combine the titles too: "Irix 21mm f/1.4 Dragonfly, a New Ultra-Wide Lens for Pentax FF" or New Ultra-Wide Lens for Pentax FF: Irix 21mm f/1.4 Dragonfly".

They first announced a cine T/1.5 version back in January and today the still f/1.4 version.

Here below what I wrote in January:

I won't open a new, dedicated thread since this is neither Pentax-related news, nor a rumour, but an educated guess.

TH Swiss AG just announced a new lens, the Irix Cine 21mm T/1.5: https://irixlens.com/cine-lenses/21mm/

The announcement of the Irix 21mm f/1.4 Dragonfly in a few months is therefore to be expected. Like the five Irix lenses currently in TH Swiss AG's portfolio (11mm f/4 - 15mm f/2.4 - 30mm f/1.4 - 45mm f/1.4 - 150mm f/2.8 Macro) this Irix 21mm f/1.4 should be available in Pentax KA mount.

Well, the DFA is more than a stop slower, so that's no surprise it weighs much less...

Looks like pretty good astro-landscape lens. A welcome option, since DFA 21 limited is a lens designed with specific purpose, not an all round super wide.

Do we know if for this lens, electronic aperture for Pentax now means "KA4" (MF, electromagnetic aperture, CPU), "KA" (MF, mechanical auto aperture, no CPU), or "KA2" (MF, mechanical auto aperture, CPU)? I don't own any lenses from this company but would be interesting to know what degree of compatibility is offered.

(Realizing that strictly speaking, there's also no aperture ring that traditional MF A lenses have)
