Pentax Pro in Outdoor Photographer magazine

I guess this is kinda news, but when I opened my new Feb 2009 issue of Outdoor Photograher yesterday, I was happy to see an entire article from a pro that uses only Pentax bodies and lens.

Kerrick James is the pro. He lives in the SW, but goes to Alaska ever summer to shoot professionally for his clients. He raves about the quailty of his Pentax gear and highlights the weather sealing for the harsh Alaska weather.

I just thought this was great to see a pro, using Pentax, mentioned in a major magazine. It always seems it's Canon or Nikon. Here's one for the little guys!

I couldn't find a link on the net to the article. Maybe someone else can and post it here.

So yes, pros DO use Pentax!!

I saw Kerrick James at this year's Photo Plus Expo in NYC. He is a great photographer. It's nice to hear about Pentax photographers for a change. I look forward to reading his article.

Smart marketing

That is the first evidence of Pentax US marketing doing something right. very smart placement.

Thanks for the links. This guy has some great stuff - regardless of what brand of camera he uses. Still, it shows what a Pentax can do (but not in my hands).

nice that he got an article, but he does get mentioned in there virtually any time they do pentax gear reviews. he was in an article a few months back when they were discussing budget teles and whatnot.

what i'd love to see, is more work in the magazines--user submissions, etc--and some lesser known pro-types get some press.

Kerrick James book mentioned in the December 2008 OP

Kerrick has a new book out, Our Arizona, which is mentioned in the December 2008 edition of Outdoor Photographer on page 91.

Even Pentax acknowledges Kerrick James. They even have devoted a website about him and a few other professional Pentax shooters: | The Community for PENTAX Users

Thanks to both CaymanImaging and Rufus T. Firefly for the post and link. Ricoh can benefit from this feedback to spread the word of professionalism of Pentax products. I guess there are other professional photographers using Pentax as well. Perhaps, most of them are too busy earning a decent living.

Mr James was in more recent Outdoor photographer as well. It must have been in the last 6 months because that's how long I've had a subscription.

I think Ricoh is doing a much better job of pushing the brand name than Hoya.

I think previous 2 posters before me should have read the date of previous posts before them and their relevance.
When the OP started the thread 5 years ago in 2008 Ricoh was nowhere in the picture!!
