Battery life will be increased, hopefully.
I'm used to carry 3 or 4 AAAs in the camera bag just in case

Incidentally, another discontinued product that is selling for high prices second hand is the 12-24/4 lens.
Locally Pentax DA second hand looks pretty dead. Guess I should take a trip to Japan and flog my da1224

I had pre-ordered at Adorama, and just got a shipping notice a couple days ago.

Also, there is now a "Buy" button enabled at https://us.ricoh-imaging.com/product/o-gps2/)

You should be using Lithium AAA batteries like on the first O-GPS since the alkaline and NiMh batteries will affect the compass a lot. Using Astrotracer to westward was impossible with alkalines, it was a great blind spot fir the compass.

No, actually the battery life is less depending on the temps:

O-GPS1:
approx. 7 hours (23C°) / 4 hours (0C°) with alkaline battery
approx. 7 hours (23C°) / 5 hours (0C°) with nickel-metal hydride battery
approx. 12 hours (23C°) / 9 hours (0C°) with lithium battery

O-GPS2:
approx. 5 hours (23℃) / 3 hours (0℃) with alkaline battery
approx. 5 hours (23℃) / 5 hours (0℃) with nickel-metal hydride battery
approx. 9 hours (23℃) / 9 hours (0℃) with lithium battery

The operating time is a guide based on our measurement conditions. It may vary depending on usage conditions.

I have never heard anyone mention that before or experienced it myself.
