"Regarding "PENTAX O-GPS2" scheduled to be released on June 24, 2022, we have received a reservation that greatly exceeds the initial assumption, and it may take time to deliver the product."

That surprises me. Cameras like the K-1 and K-1 II don't really need it and the K-3 III will only benefit a little bit (it has astro tracer without astro tracer and GPS through phone connectivity). I wouldn't have thought it would be a big seller.

One doesn't know what the (exceeded) initial assumption was.

I suppose, but assuming they made more than a couple of hundred units, it still surprises me that they would sell out that quickly. But I suppose it is possible they just made 50.

With their new model of production, they could have initially produced a small number to gauge how much demand really exists.

We should assume it's a single unit, because this way we can mock them about it.

Well, the product has been unavailable for months, so there is probably a certain amount of pent up demand. In fact, second hand prices of the O-GPS2 have been rather inflated for a while now in Japan.

Just a speculation, but if they do offer a special astrophotography model of the K-70 for 150,000 yen using crowdfunding, I wonder if that price will include one of these. It seems quite likely to me. These strong sales indicate an interest in astrophotography.

Incidentally, another discontinued product that is selling for high prices second hand is the 12-24/4 lens. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a moderate aperture wide zoom came out of nowhere.

I recently bought a K1 and decided to sell my O-GPS1 as I no longer needed it. I had dozens of enquiries from people all around the world wanting to buy it, I ended up selling it for 3 times what I originally paid for it (which is double the price of the new model). There's plenty of pent up demand.

Exactly- no one but Ricoh knows the numbers. Everyone else is just completely speculating.

How do you know someone is a Pentaxian when he's not wearing a Pentax shirt or a camera?
Well, it's easy, Pentaxians have dark circles under the eyes, sleep deprived due to spending their nights shooting the stars.
This O-GPS2 isn't going to improve the situation.

I picked up an OGPS1 in April and am excited to give it a try with the 11-18 once the sun starts going down for an extended duration again and actually gets dark - 19h 20m of daylight today in Anchorage!

From a Japanese Pentax Facebook post :-

Due to the "PENTAX O-GPS2", scheduled to be released on June 24th, we have received a lot of pre-orders that exceed originally expected, and it may take time for the products to be delivered.
Our deepest apologies for the inconvenience, including our customers and everyone involved.
