Looks like the roadmap was just updated to include a new 100mm Macro.

https://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/japan/products/lens/images/K_Mount_Lens.pdf

---------- Post added 07-31-22 at 09:17 PM ----------

New optical design using expensive glass material

Many thanks for both links, Stephen.
Hopefully this excellent news will quiet some of the pessimists regarding Ricoh/Pentax........hopefully.

Interesting, hope they get rid of screwdrive focus but if it's same size and similar design I doubt that.

No trace on the roadmap of the rumored 50-135 PLM...

Hi folks,
The topic of this thread is the great news of a new 100mm lens appearing officially on the roadmap, and not about lenses that haven't been announced yet. This thread won't last long if it becomes a vehicle for off-topic complaints.

Thanks.

I posted in another thread, but I'll put it in this dedicated thread too because it's highly relevant.

During the presentation on Sunday, they showed this comparison of the old/new lenss to illustrate the improved resistance to purple fringing.

If they do away with the screwdrive focus, I'll buy it as soon as it is available. If not, I guess I'll just keep removing the purple fringe with post-processing.

Count me as surprised to hear that a 100mm macro refresh is on their list of priorities. I certainly don't mind; I guess I just kind of saw it as already being a strong lens, so I assumed not high on the list of places to allocate precious resources. Getting rid of purple fringing is always welcome, though, and if AF is upgraded that would be another plus.

Presumably/hopefully this isn't a huge time-sink for their R&D department, which in my opinion would best be focused on getting out totally new additions, like the FF telephoto zoom lens (which I hope rivals the 55-300 in value proposition, but for K1).

I have the current Pentax 100mm macro, and have never regarded its fringing as enough of an issue to warrant an update. While I have no problem with a new or revised version being produced (the current optical design is getting a bit long in the tooth, admittedly) I do wonder what their thinking is. I guess it means that they are prioritising the upgrading of existing products to the best standard, in order to attract new customers. The danger is that they may look like they’re spinning the wheels, rather than taking the brand ahead.

I own the current lens, it only frings a bit wide open, not stopped down I usually do when shooting macro. The real improvement will be an internal motor over the screw drive . But for macro I prefer MF btw. But any upgrade is fine as long it will not be extreme expensive.

Positive anyway is a sign of life Pentax is still working at its roadmap.

I own the WR version since it came out. Since then we saw a ff line of lenses and a camera appear. Some lenses were redone in the meantime, a couple really new lenses were presented. Pentax pumped out the 100WR recently as cheap add-on for new cameras, there had to come an update. We should all have a 100WR - the new lens must be really good.
The lens also need silent af and a focus limiter, a focus clamp would also be nice.

Whatever Pentax/Ricoh make, there will be folk who insist it’s the wrong product. I hope the new lens has focus-shift to go with DC or PLM focussing.

The one lens that I've been thinking I need is a nice 100mm macro. This is, to me anyway, a wishlist item. So, very interested in the new lens!

Thanks FozzFoster for the link, it's interesting to see how these things propagate. You cited Pentax Rumors article that quoted my post in another thread at PF (Pentax Club House to open in Yotsuya, Tokyo - Page 7 - PentaxForums.com)

Anyway, depending on the AF motor mechanism I might be tempted.

I do think it makes a lot of sense although I'm not in the market for a new macro lens. The last few years saw a couple of incredibly-priced top-quality macro lenses for Pentax from both Irix as well as Laowa with near-zero fringing and incredible sharpness. I own the Irix 150mm and it is a glass monster without AF but with unbelievable image quality - a new Pentax offering could be much lighter and more compact yet with similar IQ as well as AF for those instances you'd want to use the lens for other purposes.
