That's correct Ricoh is a copier company here and the last place you'd look for cameras, lenses, binoculars or any other optical equipment. On its own PENTAX may stand a better chance than RICOH, I don't care as long as they keep going, I have 3 cameras, the K200D, K7 and K70 with no problems, on the other hand I would not buy a lens with an SDM motor once an item gains a bad reputation its better to dump it and replace it with a new publicised product.
Thinking back to Zeiss's 1936 Contax which should have wiped the floor with Leica because of its specification but its shutter was faulty they kept trying to fix it, the Contax is gone but Leica kept under Leitz management until fairly recently soldiered on to this day even if it is a niche market.
Maybe with its decision not to go mirrorless is an indication that Pentax is trying to develop a niche market of its own, who knows ?
