Sorry but I don't read the subject on the 7, why is there a crown ? Why the eye falls to the ground both sides, where is "Pentax" ? Sorry, maybe I am wrong, don't understand
What a.t. wrote (thanks a.t.!). Also see my submission post (
2022 Pentax Forums T-shirt Contest - Page 2 - PentaxForums.com).
It's an eye of cyclops (in Japanese, SRL=一眼レフ i.e. "single eye reflex" or "mono eye reflex"), thus it doesn't have the distinction of inner and outer eye corner though earlier version was asymmetric. "Pentax" is in "P" of "AP", or Asahi Pentax.
Regarding the crown, my guess is that the crown represents the ambition of the company at the time, that they'll become the king of the SLR world. They released Asahi Pentax (AP, the camera, not the brand) in 1957 and Pentax K in 1958, the "K" is said to stand for the King. The cyclops "AP" trademark was submitted for registration in 1959.
