Another idea that came to my mind was that Ricoh would release the charger for the new Pentax K1 III, but because the K1 III takes longer to design, they would release the charger first, and then release the camera a year or two later. So you would own your new Pentax charger and whenever you feel like you have an intense desire for a K1 III, you just pull the charger out of the box, contemplate it while dreaming about how great your K1 III will be in the future, and then put the charger back into the box.

Ah OK. Now I see where you come from.

However, what we're talking about in this thread is not a Pentax leak. It's the copy of a publication made by the RRA, the South Korean Radio Research Agency.

The RRA is a governmental agency in charge, inter alia, of registering/certifying products which emit electromagnetic radiation; in this case, a battery charger.

Ricoh Imaging filed months ago for this registration. They had to provide sample units, have EMR tests made by an independent lab certified by the RRA, answer any questions asked by the lab or the RRA itself, etc.

In short, they have absolutely no control over the timetable of such registration (save for knowing it takes approximately x months from filing to registration).

Therefore, this registration being published on the 6th of September doesn't give any hint other than the corresponding product being in the process to be brought to market. In a week, a month or later™.
I really did think/hope we would hear something by now. Wasn't either the GRiii or the K-3iii released within a week of our learning about the charger? Well, in any case. people will continue guessing/hoping. In any case, I'll stay out of the "game" until we hear some genuine news.

Before we get news about a new camera, we should get at least 5 news:
1) the fall color profile exclusive to fall limited lenses
2) the new 100mm macro lens without the fringing
3) eventually, the new battery charger
4) the winter color profile exclusive to winter limited lenses
5) the spring color profile exclusive to spring limited lenses
That should lead us to at least CP+ 2023 and beyond.
If Pentax can deliver on time with the color profiles, I'll be happy, because we're already mid September, I haven't seen any sign of the fall color profile and the fall colors will start in about 2 weeks depending on region). Fall colors appear much later in Japan.

Yup, and it's only a week left to astronomical fall, so next firmware update might be right around the corner

BJ-11 was registered on the 31st of May, 2018 in South Korea. The Ricoh GR III was announced on the 22nd of February, 2019, nine months after the registration of its battery charger.

D-BC177 was announced on the 27th of August, 2020 and released on the 30th of November. The Pentax K-3 Mark III was announced on the 31st of March, 2021, seven months after the announcement of its battery charger.

D-BC183 was registered on the 11th of March, 2021 in Russia. The Ricoh WG-80 was announced on the 19th of May, 2022, fourteen months after the registration of its battery charger.

It so happens that the K-3 Mark III was announced within 20 days of our learning about a new charger (D-BC183)... that had nothing to do with this camera. I'm inclined to consider this as a mere coincidence.

Considering the above-described pattern, a new (mid-range?) camera using the D-LI109 battery might be announced within nine months to a year.

I had a ‘Windows’ smart phone at one time. When I switched back to iPhone - and used the iPhone with the ‘Windows charger’, the iPhone complained that the charger delivered electrons faster than it expected. At first, I thought this new charger was for a more powerful battery, but now I wonder if it is for a battery that simply wants a slower delivery of electrons than the K-3iii battery gets.

The charger matters less. It can be charged at night and it doesn't matter how long it takes. How many use it in the field, while taking pictures? The important thing is the battery.

I routinely charge batteries when driving from place to place.
Since my Ford Fiesta does have a USB port, as long as I had a converter for USB-C, and thanks to my laptop I do,
I would make good use of a charging capability such as the K-3iii has.

We now know with which camera the BC-186 battery charger will be paired:

Pentax KF - PentaxForums.com

I’m not sure why they couldn’t use the same usb-c charger that the K-3iii uses. Doesn’t usb-c allow the destination to send feedback to the source??

Because the current D-Li109 charger does not have USB fast charge, AFAIK. This is simply an update analogous to that of the D-Li90's charger (which can't hold the smaller battery of the KF obviously). Fast charge (and EU regulations) requires the charger to be powered by a standard cable.

The charger probably won't be included with the KF (which will rely on in-camera charging through USB-C), anyway.

It just occurred to me that I do have a usb to usb-c cable, so I might be able to charge a KF battery in my car {which does provide usb power} if I were to obtain a KF in any case.

From what I can see in KF specification it still use the same micro USB connector as K-70
And the BC186 charger is included with the camera, so I doubt KF has in camera charging.
