Though outdated, it is. Ricoh Imaging didn't update the Pentax lens roadmap when they announced the HD Pentax-D FA Macro 100mm f/2.8 ED AW in October. The latter appears on the August 2022 roadmap as Macro Lens with a 100mm focal length in the '2022 or Later' portion of the roadmap.

This lens is designated as Telephoto Zoom lens on the roadmap. Again:

What's not a rumour either is the fact that Ricoh Imaging filed four patent applications between November 2018 and February 2021, which include 20 examples of 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lenses with in-lens stabilisation.
Did I write clearly that it‘s a rumor? Please keep relaxed.

Whether rumor, speculation, or forecast, I am getting frustrated that the anticipated Telephoto Zoom Lens has not been released, or there has been no additional information or leaks indicating progress. Unless someone else has heard/seen something? Asahiman on the other forum was a seemingly reliable source but he's been quiet for more than a year.

Maybe he is still a reliable source - maybe there has been no real news from Pentax in over a year. Our desire for movement doesn’t mean that Pentax has to be moving.

Oh they move: they just discontinued four lenses, three of them without replacement (yet).

Which, by the way, is the subject of this topic, the previously rumoured HD Pentax-D FA 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 ED PLM WR SR being discussed in another topic.

@Mistral75 - I think one can argue that 11-18 is replacement for all sub 20mm lenses in Pentax lineup (other then Limiteds and fisheyes). So only 60-250 and 200mm don't have replacement and more likely will not have in form of DA lens.

I noticed this. I'm wondering why not and my guess is that they are waiting for a yet-to-be-announced event on November 27. Please file this as "speculation".

Owning both the 11-18/2.8 and the 14/2.8 I’ve never actually compared them directly with each other. They are different sizes and i never really thought of them as competing for the same use - I need to see how their real world use differs.

So it is on the roadmap.

All the patents point to a 70-300 with stabilization.

It will either be AW or WR.

And it is hard to imagine it not having a modern motor. The presence of the PLM in a similar lens gives that specification a bit of credibility.

And the two better known sources for inside info seem to back this up.

Unlike a lot of random speculation on the internet this seems pretty solid.

There really is a lot of information already about this lens.

Given that the DA 55-300/4.5-6.3 is an APS-C lens and has a list price of $450 USD, I think it's pretty safe that a full frame, DFA 70-300/4.5-5.6 will be significantly north of that.

For reference, B&H currently has the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM for $599 USD and the newer Fujifilm XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR for $799.

In recent years, Pentax's price points for new lenses have mostly been right around the same as other first-party lenses, so no reason to doubt this trend will continue.
My guess would be that the lens will run in the 700 to 800 range (possibly a bit higher at time of release). I have no inside information, but as you say, pentax usually is in the ball park of brand name equivalent lenses. So, they are typically close in price to Canon and Nikon similar lenses, but quite a bit higher than Sigma and Tamron versions (although Sigma has moved more upscale in recent years too).

Why the 27th? Do Japanese typically work on Sunday?

Because Asahi Optical was founded on the 27th of November, 1919, I presume.

IIRC TKO once organised a J limited webinar on a Sunday.

My thinking is that the 60-250 has already been replaced by the
70-210.

In this hugely contracted camera market having two 50plus-200plus f4 lenses makes very little sense.

That's right. Since the 100-year anniversary Pentax has been emphasizing that date, and last year they had an event for "Pentax Day". It happened to fall on a Saturday last year, but this year it will be Sunday. As you mentioned, the last J-Limited event was on a Sunday. Since they are using the Pentax Clubhouse as a venue for online events now, it is practical for them to do so on a day when it is not open to the public and when potential viewers are not at work, hence Sunday.

This event last year was the one where they asked users for preferences about which K-3 III crowdfunding idea they should go forward with, and also what kind of full frame camera they would be interested in. I think it would be a logical time to give an update about the next full frame camera, and perhaps update the roadmap.

I'd hope closer to 700; if it's too expensive, a lot of us who use the DA 55-300 in a pinch will probably continue doing so.

Well, unless the rendering is outstanding and the SR happens to exist (and play well with IBIS). That would add a lot of value.
