Mistake, joke or a lesson of strapping new name to old gear? I wonder if it has new menu system or old.

for me it is an astro version of the k70 as described in the user survey (release 2022) together with the monochrome k3III (possibly 2023).

Interesting. I wonder if it now received the AF system that was in the K-3II & KP. I also wonder if it's still using a solenoid system or a stepper motor. Hmmm.....

I wonder why they still bundle cameras, albeit entry level, with the dated 18-55 with screwdrive AF and not with the more modern and appealing 18-50 RE...
Do they have warehouses chock full of 18-55 to empty ?
I thought the 18-50 wr re was discontinued? I could be wrong.

I would guess it still has the solenoid system - I don’t see any evidence of the stepper motor {no obvious bulge}, and they apparently did finally get reliability from the solenoid partway thru the K-70i’s time.

{I don’t understand Japan’s money system; how do these prices compare to the prices of the K-70i?}

119000 yen is about $800.

US pricing can vary.

The 18-50 is still on the roadmap from 8/22.

I think a newbie is going to be less likely to damage the DA-L 18-55 vs. the 18-50 RE. The RE seems interesting and capable of good images but they also seem to a bit fragile.

Sounds like an interesting development though I don't see myself in the market for such a camera. Wonder what kind of stop-down solenoids they used this time around...

I think it makes sense. The K-70 is old enough that it wouldn't be hard to bump up its specs a little bit. New sensor, slightly faster frame rate, 4K video all seem like possibilities. Release price of 800 dollars says a street price in six months of 700 -- that's probably the best we can do with current inflation in place.

I've been guessing $997 at best for the new entry level replacement, considering a declining market and higher hardware costs. Perhaps I'll be proved wrong, with more chances of it if the KF is general spec bumps without wholesale hardware changes and feature additions.

It better have at least SAFOX 11 that was in the K-3 and not still good old SAFOX 10. Maybe a new 26mp sensor. I would rather have seen an improved KP.

The yen is pretty cheap right now.

1 USD to JPY - US Dollars to Japanese Yen Exchange Rate

This is pretty low historically:

Dollar Yen Exchange Rate (USD JPY) - Historical Chart | MacroTrends

That can definitely impact pricing, although the camera is made in The Philippines, so I don’t know how Ricoh works the import of it to the USA.
