Yes, probably the case. In earlier Ricoh material they emphasized that the optical viewfinder image goes from subject view direct to the eye/brain without electronic reinterpretation. Albeit trough various lenses, viewscreen (ground glass) etc.

Just trying to understand better what was announced.

On the srs website they claim:
Clear-view optical viewfinder
Within its compact body, the PENTAX KF incorporates a brand new glass prism finder featuring the same optics and coatings as those used in higher-level models.

Brand-new has quite some meaning!

So did they produce a little (sneaky) addition with this or "what's upp"?
How can it be brand new and have been used in previous cameras?

If the K-3 III's prism construction has been applied to the smaller prism in the KF, it would indeed be "brand new".

Pentax's marketing language is sometimes rather florid.

It is not Pentax marketing that says it is "brand new". That claim comes from SRS.

BTW K-3 III viewfinder is called "Super-Bright" not "Clear-View".

As far as I know neither (Super) nor (bright viewfinder) but the focusing-screen is called "Natural-Bright-Matte-III"

Possibly, that was my guess as well. But we don't know.
Maybe they took that over from Ricoh and Ricoh has changed that (very quickly) and SRS didn't notice.

It is both. From K3 III press release.

A new, super-bright optical viewfinder delivers a nearly 100% field of view and magnification of approximately 1.05 times. With a newly developed high-refraction glass prism, the viewfinder provides a wide field of view equivalent to that of a full-frame SLR, fully immersing the photographer in shooting.
The "Natural-Bright-Matte-III" has been used for some time, probably since at least K-7.

So. will someone sacrifice $800 ‘for science’??

As far as I know, ‘we’ haven’t seen an actual list of parts replaced.
I'll bet that @sandyhancock has preordered!

That is at my level - certainly not his - but since I already have a KP, I won’t purchase this unless they provide facts - not marketing talk - which convince me that this is actually superior in ways that matter to me {‘testimony’ by an early purchaser would be even better}. I am hoping also for words from someone who bothers to watch the shows next week}.

Nothing to see here........Remember the KF is a 'least investment possible' continuation of the K-70. They only changed what they were forced to due to component supply issues.

I'm pretty sure the pentaprism is the same, and they put zero dollars into improving or changing it.

I am sure it is the same viewfinder as is in the K-70. It is very nice, particularly considering that pentaprisms used to be reserved for upper end cameras.

As for brand new, I suppose each new camera has a new viewfinder. I doubt highly that they are pulling them out of repurposed K-7s and K-5s.

or K-30’s, K-50’s, or some other cameras on that tier.

Maybe Ricoh renamed Super-Bright to Clear-View. Don't they have different names for Pixel Shift?

The KF is actually the only possible continuation of the K70.

A very recent problem with lack of components gave them limited choice. Either discontinue the K70 with no replacement or do what they have done ....rebrand it the KF with new components.

You have no more idea than I do whether a completely new entry level camera is in the works or not. But to blame Pentax for not suddenly being able to develop a completely new camera is disingenuous.
