Pentax announcement: Considering developing new film camera

There is an announcement up today that Pentax is starting a Film Project, which includes the possibility of making new film cameras.

This announcement is in English too, so please take a look at the announcement, which explains some of the thinking behind this.

PENTAX brand launches a film camera project focused on developing new film-based products along with camera fans?RICOH IMAGING

Personally, I think this is a good idea. This is something that is only possible because of the SLR design, so it gives the system more uniqueness over mottoes models. (Leica M is the only other one to do this)[COLOR="Silver"]

"We will be developing and launching new products and providing aftercare services so that experienced film camera users and younger photographers who want to try these cameras for the first time can fully enjoy the experience of film photography."

...sounds like they will be developing film camera repair services too?

This is fantastic. There's a really big film revival going on these days, and a problem of film cameras slowly dwindling. I think they'll do well!

Very Interesting!
I've been saying for ever that Pentax can hit a Home Run by selling parts to service the used film camera market. Just imagine service parts for 67, 645, LX and K1000. Start with just only those 4 models and watch the world melt down.

*EDIT* Where do I send my resume?

Thanks,
Ismael

This doesn't seem like something Ricoh would do if they weren't confident (or as confident as they could be) about the future of Pentax or were looking to offload it to a buyer. I maintain the position that I've held for several years that Pentax is in good hands.

I'm not going to be one of the potential customers for this but I applaud the move. Well done Pentax and well done Ricoh.

"...we plan to market not one but a series of film cameras..."
roadmap is:
compact > high end compact > SLR > fully mechanical SLR
