K-3III mod

TKO (of J-limited and Pentax Film Project fame) posted something about Uber-cool viewfinder spotted at Pentax event in Yokohama on twitter, w/o saying anything about this strangely familiar camera.
Somebody (probably TKO himself) modified the body shell design of K-3III to remove pentaprism and 3D-printed the top and front panel (look at the texture on these panels). Don't expect them to start selling it though, I suspect that this is just TKO's fun project at this point.

So he took one of the principal design elements of the K-3iii and just took it out. Different strokes, different folks I suppose.

That is the "K-02" that they showed at the J Limited event last March. That thing actually switches on and works, by the way. Although it looks like a mirrorless version of the K-3 III, TKO explained that the mirror is still in there. It's just stuck open inside. It is of course just a joke. The actual J Limited version of the K-3 III looks like an upsized version of the K-30, available in the same blue and white coloring, but I'm not sure of the release timing.

By the way, they showed prototype drawings of the K-30 at the last online event in December. Interestingly, the K-30 drawings had the label K-f on them, so I think they must have decided to change from the K-m, K-x, K-r style naming to the number style right at the last moment.

The J Limited team like to bring some new curiosity to each event to keep people interested. Sometimes it's a never-produced old prototype and sometimes it's some crazy experiment they have hacked together, like the "K-02". Unfortunately, they tell attendees to to upload images to the internet, so I can't share any images. I guess they are worried about rumor sites using the images to start bogus rumors of cameras that will never be released.

At least it gives us something to talk about.
This section has been basically dead for awhile.

There is likely to be another Pentax (not necessarily J Limited) event at the end of this month. They have had one every three months to preview with the next seasonal firmware release, so given that the last one was November 23, I would expect the enxt to be announced very soon. Then there may be something more substantial to discuss.

But will there be anything of interest, I wonder.

I came up with something similar a few months ago in response to a post in a different group

I don’t fool myself.
As a resident of the US, they take my dollars, but …..
Even JPT is just another Japanese face to them.
Even CP+ is “just another show” to them, and won’t affect their timing. They “dance to their own drummer”.
Their main interest is their own on-line chats with their own Japanese audience.
