It's MF only, right?
Yes, yes, and yes.

4) Is is mostly metal and glass. It is heavy. It is a light sucking optic at 1.4. The lens hood is plastic and the front filter threads look to be plastic. But the body looks to be metal.
Now that's definitely good to hear. If the optics check out fine, then this might signal what's in store for us from the new Series 1 line: quality optics, good price, metal construction.

Sounds good so far. Will wait with bated breath on your assessment and sample photos.

My questions to the owner:

- How is the feel of the mechanics (focussing and aperture ring)? Smooth or cheapish?

- How many degrees does the focus ring turn, roughly, from near to infinity?

Have some fun over the weekend w/ them and let us know how it turns out. I'd like to see portraits w/ different backgrounds but I'm sure others would be interested in other subjects.

50mm 1.4

I would love to see this compared to the FA 50mm 1.5, which is the poor mans portrait lens. Also I would love to know where is available for less an $500.

I will wait with baited breath.

That Walimex Pro doesn't appear to have an "A" setting.

If it's any indication, the press release by Sakar noted that their lenses would range from $150 to $400, so I'm guessing their 85 1.4 would be the one having the $400 price tag.

Hrm, though, not sure how promising a sign it is they're talking about making more T-mount lenses and calling them 'Series 1s.'

Nothing wrong with anyone taking a crack at the fast 85, though.

Hi everyone. I'm still planning to put something up this weekend. I want to take natural light pictures but it's pitch dark when I go to work and it's pitch dark when I go home. So I have to wait until the weekend and try to sneak away from parenting duties for a couple hours.

I also have an offer to the forum.

I don't own a dSLR. So my test images will be done on 35mm gear. I'm pretty sure that whatever pictures I take, you will want to see even more.

So here's what I can do. If someone wants to meet me with their dSLR, I'll bring the lens and a FA77 Limited (the closest Pentax lens available for sale) and they can take as many test & comparison photos as they want. I may be persuaded to also bring along the A*85 as well.

The lens is currently making friends with a covey of other fast portrait lenses in Edmonton, Canada. Send me a private message if you are interested.

I wonder if The Pirate will respond?
