All of you people ragging Ned about his non-Pentax purchase I better see ALL of your non-Pentax gear up for sale in the marketplace by weeks end.
Sure, after Pentax Imaging hires me to be their president.

Actually, Edsel Ford bought one of the first MG sports cars. It is believed by many that his was the first one brought into the US. He did buy it in England and imported it himself. At the time (the thirties), the MG was not sold in the US.

And, I believe that Ed Cole, the father of the Corvette, owned a couple of British and German sports cars in the early fifties, which led him to decide that Chevrolet needed something to compete with them.Bob Lutz one of the GM biggies has a number of cars in his collection...a number of them aren't GM. To me it makes sense that a top official tries a number of different makes...gotta know what the competition is doing. If he were an insular individual, not using anything but Pentax...I would have some problems with that..don't think it would be a great strategy.

So, Ned Bunnell bought a Leica. While some may think this is crazy, I really don't think that Pentax competes in that particular niche. I seriously doubt that anyone narrows down his/her camera choice to a K20D or a Leica DigiLux (or any model). Anyone who wants a Leica isn't even going to consider a Pentax.

Paul Noble
I've got a Leica rangefinder and a Panasonic Lumix with a 'Leica' lens. But I've also got a Mamiya medium format, an Olympus, etc....but mostly Pentax SLR's. I would like to see Pentax bring out a competitor for the Panasonix LX3 or the Canon G10...both of which I think can be improved. I want to get a very good...small camera as a general carry around...my K10D is great, but I'm old and it's hard to carry around a large camera..all day.

Time for a decent advertising campaign...what the heck is Pentax doing ...trying to make themselves the great unknown.....it's getting to the point that Pentax will not be known by any other than long term users.

I think it wouldn't have been so problematic if Ned endorsed a camera like the M8 or a Voightlander or any obsure stuff. The problem with the D-Lux 4 is that it's actually a Panasonic, a big competitor, a fact that maybe Ned wasn't aware of. And even if the Pentax P&S are really inferiors, they have models that could at least compete on specs with the d-lux. From this I can conclude that it was a gaffe from Ned.

If he's that "unaware" then I officially send in my resume for his job

For those that believe the "damage" is escalated here it seems that this site rarely registers on google... we are safe The 'official" news is nothing but praise....
ned bunnel - Google News

BTW: I only wasted about a minute of my life on this, and would have been less but I type slow........
