And a K20D rumor/info from Israel ...

According to a post in an Israeli photography forum (äôñú ééáåà ùì ä K20D? - d-spot.co.il for thos of you reading Hebrew) :

"Today [01-Feb-2009] a camera store (unnamed for now) told me that Karat told them this morning that the K20D will no longer be imported to Israel. The given reason is a soon to be released replacement".

(This is a translation of the post I've seen. I have no more info about that).

(Karat are the Israeli importers of Pentax. UNFORTUNATELY they are also the Israeli importers of Canon).

As far as I remember rumours (which appeared to be true) about K100D, K10D, K20D came from Russia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Malta...

Why not Israel this time?

just the first place where somebody slipped and said more than they should... a smaller market being more likely to stop importing soon-to-be-replaced cameras than a bigger market...

As we know they are about the best secret service in the world (apart from the Belgians, of course)

I think that something will be announced pretty soon now.
The UK £100 cashback on K20D kit finished yesterday so it would be about the right time.

What did make me smile and imo another total Pentax cock up is included in the latest cashback was a £30 rebate on the new K-m (K2000 to you) which finished at the same time. Today they started a £50 cashback which means all those new DSLR owners coming into Pentax are going to be highly pleased.

îöìîä Pentax K20D áæàô

I live in NYC and just got mine today from B&H they are running out of stock often as well I think its about Pentax way of marketing and not about a new camera that is coming in

Also, if they were discontinuing the K20D, wouldn't that imply that the new camera is of the same product line, thus not the large step up many have been waiting for? If this is actually the case, I would think that it would be more of a K10D to K20D step rather than a K20D-K3D (high end camera) step.

From all the speculation that's been around, and what little we seem to really know, I tend to suspect that we'll at least see a minor upgrade of the K20d, regardless of what else may happen, this year.

Have you looked at the economy recently? That imaginary step up ain't coming this year. But that's not bad — the K10D is a great camera, and the K20D makes great improvements on it. If they can do that level of improvement again, I'll be thrilled.

Ironic.....As Pentax has always been...major R&D the past year (poor Samsung....and Pentax) . Market drops......and unlike other drops, Pentax only has a small percentage of the market. Pentax has never gone after the high end 35mm (less the 1 year LX) but they had the 645 and 67 market pegged. They (hoya) dropped the 645d...(60MP and matching clarity and tone when digital can almost match)....so what is left....it was going so well for Pentax.....I hope the sun isn't setting.

Except for one shop - they are all gray market importers. And ... they DON'T have any stock. Order and get it in 21 days (or something like that).
