I like the photos, the lens does a excellent job capturing the colours and dof, I especially like the scene under the pier. Harry seems to enjoy all the attention.

Color and contrast are very good, but it seems to me that it's not sharp.
But the size of photos is not big and it's hard to say anything.

Does anybody know what the expected street price for this lens is? I've been waiting for a lens like this for a long time, because my 12-24 is just too bulky.

The shots look promising, just needs some CA tests and some sample shots with it stopped down.

I think it looks pretty sharp so far, and appears to have little distortion (looking at the beach photo with the flagpole in the upper left).

It's hard to say. Maybe it's 14.6 MP effect.

he only posts in ~1.6mp, downsampled all to hell.

Given that fact.... Looks quite soft.

Downsampling can make images look soft too. Since we don't know the process, best not to jump to conclusions. Ned indicated on a thread in DPReview that he thought they were pretty sharp. Since he's a better photographer than I am, that's good enough for me.

Blue: That's a different lens. We're talking about the 15mm ltd. here.

PS: The pics look sharp to me. I'd like to see some 100% crops at f/11 and f/16 tho.

If it's got almost no distortion, it's jumped to the top of my must purchase list.

It's funny how I entertained the thought of getting an all-manual focus Zeiss collection of lenses, only to wake up and realize for the price of three Zeiss primes, I could collect almost all of the Limiteds - and still have some money left over.

Thanks for the link Ogl, I hadn't noticed they were done with the 15/4 lens.

Willoughby's has it listed as "in stock" for $749.99. Amazon.com: Pentax SMC DA* 55mm f/1.4 SDM Prime Standard Lens w/ Case for Pentax Digital SLR Cameras: Willoughby's Established 1898

Edit: Whether they actually have any, I don't know, but are a fairly reliable company.
Willoughby's are not really to be trusted, they get lousy feedback too. Some years ago they still said they had FA* in stock, though no place sold them any more. They'll charge you, but can't deliver. Bit of a shame, since it is one of the oldest camera shops in N.Y.

Do you think Ned had a custom mount to put it on his Leica?
