i agree with Jeff

pentax's lens strategy dictates that FF is not in the books.

the two pro-level zooms are designed from the ground up for digital only use, and designed to replace the effective field of view of the popular zooms of the past, something canon and nikon never bothered with.

the three main pancakes are designed for convenience and low cost

the upcomming DA15 also fits into that category

the newly released DA*55 f1.4 effectivly is the new FA*85 f1.4, a lens that in the past was a good choice for portraiture, perhaps the DA*55 is the first of a batch of professional level primes?

Those DA lenses that work on a full frame do so out of happenstance rather than purposeful design

FA lenses are slowly being discontinued

the aperture ring is gone (big blow to film guys)

K20D is, in my opinion, the best APS-C camera on the market today in terms of image quality.

No, i do not see pentax wasting their time building a full frame camera.

if anything, the new camera will simply be a K20D refinement, better live view, quieter shutter, faster shutter, faster processing time, and perhaps more sneaky options for the tech-savy (like some crazy wireless support or gps junk)

...and features vs. price terms (but K200D is the same in its own category).

K200D uses an outdated sony made CCD that is in the heart of many Nikons, its in its own categroy... but its not the only one in there.

Why is anyone surprised at the figure that only 20% of Nikon's sales are with their FF cameras? Furthermore, why should anyone be surprised that the P&S market outsells the DSLR segment?

because people are idiots?

people tend to forget that they are on a focus-group forum, everything seems much more important to them.

like people who ski think car ski racks should come with every vehicle sold.

i'm sure there is a documented medical term for this sort of thinking.

unfortunately i think you are spot on.

thats really the only thing i have been monitoring - the lens road map - for any indication of a FF on the way.

its pointless bringing out a FF if there are no lenses to use on it, so they would have plans to release FF compatible lenses.. and sadly there are non on the horizon..

unless of course Pentax are wise to that give away sign and keeping the FF lenses top secret too???? gotta live in hope whilst I wait to get my 5D canon

It is called "being obsessed".

why bother though

lets say pentax makes a 30mm f1.4 or 1.8, SDM and weather sealing

okay, so it will be a tad bigger than the FA limited

but if pentax is fundementaly changing their methodology (my assumption), there wont be demand for the FA limiteds once the DA* lineup completes itself

only the film people, who are few and far apart as it is, might want it then, but i wouldnt wish to bring the used market into the big picture just yet.

I would say Pentax hasn't changed its methodology fundementally for so long its more likely to see Pentax close its brand and sell it to Samsung before we see a drastic change.

Pentax will always cater for the small, compact, landscape oriented amatuer shooters.

I hang out in the Chinese photography sites sometimes. The Pentax owners give hilarious nicknames to lenses. For example, the 3 FA limited are "Three Princesses"; the 85* is the "Ikea cup"; the FA 28-70* is the "little gold".

There is no official nicknames for the DA limiteds yet. I think the consensus is that they are not on the same level of frame as the FA limiteds. If one day, Pentax do plan to discontinue the FA limiteds for good. I will shed a tear for them, for I likely won't collect them all by then. In that case I *demand* Pentax start releasing the DA limiteds in silver trim. The 70mm ltd for a start. It's a great lens. And get rip of the green ring too, I don't like it.
