FA 35mm discontinued

B&H Photo has listed the FA 35/2.0 as discontinued. It's also not showing up on the Pentax U.S.A. site. If you want one Adorama is still listing it, at least for the moment. If you wanted to get one it may be a good idea to grab it while you can.

Maybe this means the rumored on-again, off-again DA 30mm is coming?

Maybe they're doing a Nikon and coming out with a low-priced DA 35/1.8

I wouldn't mind, personally.

That would be a great news to really have da 30mm f1.8 released.

The likely problem will be the pricing going well beyond 199 US dollars...

Well I'm glad I bought mine 2 months ago. Excellent lens, small, good performer even wide open, nice bokeh, and I can keep it when Pentax releases a FF DSLR (in 5 years or so). Yay!

Geesh. I've been meaning to get one of these for so long now. I should probably do it before it's too late! Although I wouldn't object to a cheaper 35/1.8. That would be nice too.

It's like the planets and stars aligning... do I keep my 35/F2, sell it and upgrade to a 31/F1.8, or bide my time and just wait until the DA* 30mm comes out?

For folks that have this, would you rather use it or a 24-70/28-75/2.8 zoom?
Tempted if it's getting discontinued, but photozone says peak sharpness is up at f/4 instead of f/2.8...

I owned this lens and it is really excellent at all apertures. Check Photozone test again: it clearly shows that the lens is excellent at all apertures. True, it "peaks" at f/4 but the improvement is very small (similar to DA40 or D-FA 100) and IMO of no practical importance.

In fact, check FA50 and FA35 on Photozone side by side and see the difference.

The only thing Pentax did wrong this this lens is going with 6 aperture blades which sometimes may look distracting. If Pentax would release DA35/2 (NOT limited, not "star", DA14-like design please!!!) with identical optical design, but added QuickShift and 9 aperture blades that would be the winner! (However, it would directly compete with DA40 and DA35 Macro so we will never see it.)

I would keep the 35/2 or if I would have the money, upgrade to 31/1.8. I think the 30 "star" would be at most at the same level with the 35/2 at least opticly. The 31/1.8 is one of the best AF lenses ever made, and not only by Pentax. At least that's my opinion.

Lets hope that this is a mis-label on the part of B&H. In the mean time Adorama still has stock:

This has surfaced before and so far has not panned out to be true.

I wouldn't bet on it's demise any time soon.

And, for those who want one and it takes bad news to influence you, just go ahead and buy one and be happy you did. It's a fantastic lens

I bought my FA35/2 cca 4 weeks ago from Prag. They told me that there is no FA35/2 within the Pentax Europe worehouses.

This was our answer to Nikon's 35/1.8 release.
