Nikon will offer 54*54 mm new MX system. Can Pentax?

Nikon MX System

New Nikon DMF - MX system. Will Pentax make something close to MX and much cheaper?

There were rumors about hybrid bayonet and 36*48 mm sensor in Pentax DMF cameras with mask for FF and DA lenses and with AF for all AF Pentax lenses.
But I have a lot of doubts.

Sure, that is just what Pentax needs to offer, and extreme niche product for an extreme niche user. That will boost their bottom line.

Medium format = $$$$$ (mucho dinero, amigos)

It was expected that Nikon would anounce the MX last night.

Instead they gave a Blues Traveller concert.

I expect the MX system is good to go, but the economy is not ready. So at the last minute plans were changed.

I'm sure pentax will anounce something equally exciting.

Maybe the 645D in black, white, and jewel encrusted.

But Pentax, unlike Nikon, has traditionally been a big player in MF with the 6x7 and 645 systems. I don't see why they couldn't continue doing that now, only digitally? A 645D would make a lot of sense. They already have the lens designs and the reputation!

Oh, and another thing: Pentax has already released its very own MX system a long time ago.

They were working? To what extent? Remember the MZ-D? It was "working" but picture quality was so poor, Pentax didn't release it.

Enter Samsung and not Kodak?

It would be neat to see a 645D prototype (even under glass) at PMA.

Was it 2005 or 2007?

How strong is this rumour though? other than KR claims (I won't bother you with my opinions of him) all I have seen is people (including Nikon Rumours which lately has a pretty good record) making fun of Ken's claims...

I heard about MX in 2008. Anyway, I'd like to see Pentax to launch DMF camera.
