K200D is officially discontinued

Good day all,
Well I ordered a K200D on monday from Vistek here in Edmonton Canada. They had to bring the lens in from another city. While I am waiting for it I have read a few threads stating this model is not being made any longer.. I e-mailed Pentax Canada in regards to this rumor. I got the official reply from them stating that indeed this model has stopped being produced and if I wanted a current model I should look at the K-M or K20
Should I cancel my order? Is there something that wrong with this camera that they had to pull it so soon? It only hit the market in 2008 if I am correct. It seems that every time I decide on a product this kind of thing happens.

Nothing wrong with the camera but some might say there's something wrong with Pentax marketing.

Several threads on this already.

There is nothing wrong with the camera, it might not have been very successfully positioned for the mass market, but if the camera and it's specs appeal to you I would certainly not let the discontinuation of production keep you from buying it. With the prices you generally pay for it now it really is a bargain.

I usually stay away from rumours and their associated threads, so I have no idea what people are saying, but discontinuing something may indicate that a new replacement is on the way.

I had that camera, but I sold it and bought a K20D because I wanted the AF adjustment. I would imagine they are discontinuing it because the K2000 is a 10MP and the K200D is a 10MP. They're probably going to replace the K200D with a model that differentiates itself from the K2000 a little more clearly. There are a lot of other differences besides the 10MP (like weather sealing, top LCDs, etc) but when people are going to buy a camera, a lot of times they look at how many MPs the sensor has. I think that's because they don't know what else is important in making a great picture, so they like that nice easy number. So you'll probably see a new K300D coming down the pike.

If there is a K300D coming out then how will it not tread all over the K20D?

Good call, since the AF is improved in the K-m, we can only imagine the AF in the K300D will be better too...

I am unperturbed. I love my K200D and its images and refuse to give it up. So it's discontinued, that just means that very soon it will be a collector's item!

The trend is discountinuing cameras every 12-18 months or so. It's the pressure of today's constantly changing market demands.

There's nothing wrong with the K200D just like there's nothing wrong with my K10D. Get it now and enjoy it, if you wait for the next one to come out you may as well change hobbies.

I've been shooting with my discontinued K10D for a year now (or so) and every day I remark to myself how much I love it. You still see people remarking how much they live their *ist and various others. Heck, I recently threw some film through an old SV and it worked as good as day one!

Well said. I've got a K200D and have no plans to get rid of it anytime soon. Besides if you wait until the new cameras come out, you'll be paying top dollar for them, until a year from now when a new camera will come out - so you'll wait for that... etc etc...

I guess I just got a case of cold feet at the last minute. I just found that was awefully quick to pull a product. Usually in my experience it has proved to be a serious discontent with a particular product.
Anyway based on the replies here by those with this camera I will continue to wait patiently for my new camera.
Thanks guys

I made mine in Photoshop Elements after seeing all the nifty tags other people had here. ask around I'm sure people won't mind lending one to you. You can use mine too, but mine isn't as slick as some I've seen.
