Any other new DSLRs at Photokina

There seems to be a lot of speculation (expectation) that Pentax is going to release a new DSLR or two at Photokina. Are there any other manufacturers hinting at a new DSLR in the next couple of weeks?

There may not be much thunder left to steal but what are the possibilities that Pentax will at least have the new release stage all to themselves this year? (assuming for the sake of argument that they are actually on it)

Ehhh... Photokina was held back in September, 2008. The next Photokina is in 2010; I hope Pentax will have new models at that time

There have been rumors about a nikon D400 but it seems a bit early.

The Oly guys seem to want something between the E-520 and E-30, but the latter just came out. On the other hand, the E-420 was released in March 08, the E-410 in March 07 and the E-400 about 6 months before that, so it may be about time for an update...

Sony apparently said they would slow down on their dslr releases after a frantic 2008.

So it seems that the stars are aligning for Pentax to steal the show...

Then again,Canon may come up with a 475D -- who knows. ;-)

[All this guaranteed 100% baseless speculation of course]

Pentax is the most likely candidate at this point. If I were betting on horses, I'd bet on Pentax to win by a full length.

I agree with some others ideas and predictions here about other brands.....but, I would not be surprised if Pentax does NOT release a body at PMA. Why? The world market right now BLOWS and there are many DSLR models on the market since this time last year and after...most are selling slowly anyway. Why release now?

However, I would be surprised if one is not offered or released by June...when it goes to market, who knows? Maybe in time to hit the market by late summer and really into full swing by end of the year (Christmas)

Of course, this is just my hunch and I hope I am wrong.

There is a preview up for the E-620 on Dpreview already.

Olympus E-620 Hands-on Preview: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review

There are also rumors of the A800 surfacing again, even though Sony said they will not be releasing anything this PMA.

If Pentax has a product ready, they need to release it. A camera body that is ready in the spring of 2009, is not going to be hit if released in the spring of 2010. It is a tough market to release into right now. But shelving a camera body until later won't work like it will with lenses.

If it is ready to go and has a decent spec then why hold back?
If Pentax do that then they they risk bringing out a new model the same time as Nikon and Canon which would probably make their new model look average instead.

Pentax would be stupid not to realease their already done camera, if they wait they will lose more and more people because Pentax did not release anything new for a long time and nikon and canon did and if they release it later it will will be old and nobody will buy it.
So if pentax is not going to invest, even in this time of economic crisis they will go bankrupt for sure.

Agreed, they added the articulating LCD, 4 fps, upped the sensor to 12mp (and if it is the one from the G1 it is much better than the e520), and upped the focus points from 3 to 7.. They even allow AF adjustments individually on each focus point..

Apparently Nikon is going to put an articulating LCD on their bottom end model (soo to be announced).. Though I really think it is the wrong way around, start on the high end like Olympus (I hate it when such usefull features are only on the low end)..

Wow that's amazing. That E-620 looks killer for the price. Hope Pentax has something good for us!
