Either that picture is photoshopped(likely) or he's holding a body/grip combo we haven't seen yet.

Everyone can appreciate the subtlety Pentax has. They revamp the K200D, don't tell anyone about it, but it oddly finds itself in this brochure -- and in the hands of some hot German photographer (who's so good, he doesn't even need to turn on the camera to shoot with it!)

http://media.pentax.de/downloads/photo/de/19541/K200D_Katalog_GER.pdf

Differences I noticed
- The top of the flash from the K200D have straight lines. Not the one in the picture
- The K200D has the picture modes. Not the one in the picture
- In the picture the body is different where the AV and Green Button are located
- In the picture the SR logo is different (less red margins)
- In the picture there is a button next to the flash in the front not present in the K200D
- The Flash housing is black in the picture instead of silver
- The infrared window in the picture is horizontal while it's vertical in K200D
Yes the picture mode is gone and looks like there is an red "X" on the dial....

If you think that's weird...wait til see this.

That's an ad that appeared in TIME magazine.

:ugh: Can't believe they didn't have a K10D product shot!

The camera the guy is holding looks like a K10D with the front e-dail removed, the green button moved the the right, and a exposure comp button placed where the K10d's green button was. The mode dial looks exactly like the K10D.

If it is an edited photo, do you think they would be bright enough to remove the front dial, but add the e-comp button?

I'm wondering if the K200D replacement is a K10D body along with a pentaprism. The front dial gets removed to seperate it from the top tier pentax.

Maybe the K300D is a watered down K20D (same sensor) and the big release is the K30D, new body, new sensor?

Now I'm interested.

Thinking about this a little more...

It would be a smart move to be able to re-use the K10D/K20D tooling and assembly lines.

Also the grip would add the function of the front e-dial. Sell more grips that way.

If the K30D is a new body shape, reusing the K10D/K20D on the K300D would be a bright move.

I'm starting to think this is a real photo.

Looks like K20D photoshoped - without front dial.

Hi all, Long time lurker, first time poster so here goes:

Before anyone gets to carried away by the picture in the german ad - i am afraid i put the searchlight on this picture in "another forum" yesterday. The ad is originally dated 080101, and is probably the result of a sloppy/lazy/stressed out advertising picture editor. It seems likely to me that the advertisors have missed a good action picture of the K200D and then went PS on an innocent K10d or K20d. So in my opinion - nothing to get all to exited about (unfortunately)

best wishes/Torsten

(But of course i may be wrong, it has happened before one time when i thought i was wrong - and in the end i was right. )

I suspect this is a kind of place-holder photograph because they didn't have a suitable shot of a K200D before they needed to get the brochure finalised.

Its possible that the camera is actually real, rather than a photoshop job, but in fact a pre-production/prototype K20D and not a new camera.

The way I see it the camera could be a prototype and the picture a hidden message about a future model if one believes that a camera wrapped in secrecy is shipped at a photo shoot with a whole bunch of people around (and of course some of them photographers and people into photography) and handed over to a bozo that can't even switch it on when he's"enjoying it". Oh, God!

Maybe someone's adding this to the "K-x2" which looked more like a K200 than a K-x.

Source?
