The color is not too bad. It helps you to pick out the camera at your local lost-and-founds.

Plastics aren't painted anymore. The color is mixed into the plastic so one color can not be any more susceptible to scratching than another. Scratch susceptibility is only dependent on the hardness of the plastic.

Hrm, I think the problem there is that a different company got that branch of former-Minolta, along with the name, so it's not Sony's to use, if I recall correctly.
