And it seems the K-m is the only advertised Pentax dSLR on the major retailers' catalogues (in Australia at least). No K200D, no K20D. Wonder what's in store...
Ash, none in store really.

I knew all the Melbourne local stores very well since I am in three brand photography groups: Olympus, canon and pentax.

Every time I ask for a pentax lens or camera, the store salesman gives me that dirty look. "What?" or "Pentax?"

I only go to these stores to test lenses these days and tame my temper control.

I know it is, but others say otherwise. I'm not 100% on this one.

Although the K-m is surely cute and compact; and most definitely cheap, I could never do without a cable release socket and secondary LCD display.
Maybe the K300D will use the K-m's improved AF. I don't care how many focus points it has; I only use one.
It still in stock on the Pentax site at the Pentax web site:

PentaxWebstore K200D Body Kit Only

That trumps rumor. It is not official until Pentax says so.

They also have the white k2000 and black one in stock:

PentaxWebstore K2000 w/ 18-55 and 50-200 Two Lens Kit - White

PentaxWebstore K2000 w/18-55 Lens and AF200FG Flash Kit

Edit: By the way, if I went by what was stocked by stores in Florida, I would come to the conclusion that Pentax has been out of business for a long time.

Hey, what's not to like? It's a very capable SLR. 'bout time, I say.
What does it do that a D60 or the base model canon doesn't (apart from mount the right lenses)?

"Discontinued" and "No longer in production" are not exactly the same thing, IMO. I interpret what I have read to mean that Pentax is no longer making the K200D, but that they have not officially discontinued it (removed it from their product lists), and probably will not do so until most of the remaining stock is sold. After all, many would not buy an officially discontinued model.

Regards, Jim

True. However, most manufacturers don't constantly run product from their assembly lines. They can do runs of items based on company needs. At this point it is mere speculation either way. Sale and future models will determine that. My point is Pentax still has the capacity to make the k200d and has not officially discontinued it. Everything will be discontinued eventually . . .

Finally something positive about pentax on the local magazines which is only a substitute for toilet paper or a cheaper alternative to fiber rich diet.
As we used to like to say about the company I work for's service... "almost as good but a lot cheaper!"
