K-m making waves in Australia

Pentax, not known for featuring front page on local photo mags, have had the K-m rise to fame on this month's Camera magazine (AVHub - Camera) and January's Digital SLR photography (Digital SLR Photography magazine :: Home).

Top choice for value for money and given high credits!
I personally didn't give the K-m much thought - I actually went backwards for a backup body recently, the *ist D. What a great model that was....

Keep 'em comin' Pentax...

The K-m was given high marks when Sweden's oldest and most respected photography magazine FOTO reviewed it. They particularly lauded the autofocus for being fast and accurate even in low light, as I remember, which is a breath of fresh air in Pentax land.

I think my K10D (with DA16-45 and DA70) is fast and accurate even in low light, as long as I use AF.S. AF.C is a different story, but in reasonably good light and with the DA70, it works.

Finally something positive about pentax on the local magazines which is only a substitute for toilet paper or a cheaper alternative to fiber rich diet.

Now the only concern is the stock supply of this camera

I just checked...cameraction is now selling the K-m body only for $799. Ted sells the K-m with 18-55 lens at $799.

Well the K200D is said not to be in production any longer. That leaves.. 2 production lines for the K-m? (assuming Pentax prepared a 3rd prod. line for the K-m before cancelling the K200D)

Pentax is still showing the k200d on their site . . .

Edit: I should clarify that's at least Pentax Imaging in the U.S.

Dan, I have tried out km since Voe got it last week. It is surely an autofocus machine. Significantly better than k20d.

Well, I still see no km bodies in my country here. If I want to buy, I prefer prodigital, Henry or Adorama. Australian pricing is high and service is rather irritating.

I know it is, but others say otherwise. I'm not 100% on this one.

Although the K-m is surely cute and compact; and most definitely cheap, I could never do without a cable release socket and secondary LCD display.
Maybe the K300D will use the K-m's improved AF. I don't care how many focus points it has; I only use one.

Hi!

I just checked the last advertisement leaflet from Media Markt in Kalmar, where the Pentax Km was said to be their best selling DSLR

(The best selling PPS was also a Pentax, just can't remember the model)

Cheers!

I think k200d is discontinued and Pentax is selling over the world remaining stock of k200d. Look at Pentax Japanese website - in English version there are displayed 3 cameras - k-m, k200d and k20d, but on the same website Japanese version is shown only 2 cameras - k-m and k20d.

Pentax jp English version - Digital SLR Camera Lineup : Digital Cameras : Imaging Systems Division : PENTAX
Pentax jp Japanese version - ????????????????????PENTAX

Production of the K200D is canceled, so the K200D is discontinued.
But it is still on sale because Pentax still has it in stock. It will be on display on Pentax websites until the stock is emptied, which may take a while in this times of economic recession.

And it seems the K-m is the only advertised Pentax dSLR on the major retailers' catalogues (in Australia at least). No K200D, no K20D. Wonder what's in store...
