New SLR? Not a K20D follow up? New Concept? More Advanced?
How about just maybe a 645D!

That was from Andreas Middeke speaking.

Andreas Middeke is International Manager Pentax Europe and Geschäftsführer (CEO) Pentax (Switzerland) AG.

He is from Buchholz in der Nordheide (close to Hamburg)(Buchholz in der Nordheide - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

Maybe, somebody living nearby can make him canned and learn more

The more advanced model will be *announced* this summer, but it won't be available until after the summer.

The 645D is not a new concept. It has been around on several shows for a couple of years now, so nothing new there and not even a secret. They are not talking about the 645D. If they were, they would call it the 645D.

It is not logic, Captain Kirk, to talk secretely about a model everyone knows about...

He said it'd go on sale this summer.

Speculation: 645D? Already developed... just needs to go on sale.

Not in this interview! I guess you're wrong here.

New concept...
This could be anything from FF or medium format to anything as modest as a new body which is different from the K10D/K20D body.

Using Occam's razor and the experience with the big words preceeding the K20D announcement, I think it is a safe bet to say "new body".

So, it would be about the K3D, not the K30D, why he didn't say "direct successor" to the K20D.

If the K3D would be FF? Well, taking his remark "the concept has changed during the development in the past months" it actually may mean that they decided to put an FF sensor into it (esp. as those are becoming cheaper and cheaper). It is known that this camera was planned for PMA2009 launch. So, this "recent change of concept" led to a delay. It must have been for some significant reason.

From recent patent applications Pentax has a new mount in the works. That is definitive. To go with it they have a full compatibility adapter. What remains to be clarified is what compatibility is it. What new bodies(formats) will go with it and when.

Could you please point to the patent application? Much interested in reading these.

The new dSLR from Pentax will be a K30 or a more advanced model called K3 or K3D.
No FF, but an APS-C or maybe APS-H'ish(that will work fine with all DA lenses).

It can be Samsungs NX that Pentax do the new mount to, a Micro-K.

Great 1st post! Not only was the quality of that stream excellent, the info conveyed was a big tumbs-up! I really loved the smirk on the rep's face as he was spilling the beans. lol

That should:
a) dispel some rumors
b) really get the rumor mill going focused on FF or pro or both!

It seems the K20D should be around a good bit longer then too.
One thing is certain, development of the imaging system for the new camera (sensor and processor) started at least 18 months ago and is unlikely to change. What is going to change is the packaging - the type and specification of body that this image system will be installed in and its price point.

Instead of thinking about what Nikon and Canon do and expecting Pentax to do the same, think instead of what they DONT do any more and where the gaps are in their ranges. What market are they NOT addressing.

Or is everyone so brainwashed by Canon's marketing that nothing short of a 5Dmk2 clone with Pentax written on it will do? If so, buy a Canon. You will never get what you want.

I suspect the K20D will continue at a discount as their midrange product until they have sold all remaining stock before being superceded by a "new" midrange body which will have very similar specs to the current camera, but will be smaller.

Hello there

I was searching through information about PMA and found this little thing from a swedish camera magazine. I checked to see if it had been mentioned here before, but I couldn't find anything...

It's an interview with a representative from pentax at the PMA and he says some interesting things about a new SLR coming in the summer. Most of it is in swedish, but check it out from about 0:55 and you'll see.

Pentax på PMA

Enjoy!
Great find - thanks - and good news!

I don't see them ending the DA line of lenses when it's not even 10 years old yet.
