For starters:
  • Contrast AF which is slow but more accurate than phase AF can be
I mention this because it needs no modification at the lens level.

Beyond this, I am not in the camp believing that contrast AF needs special lenses. It just needs better algorithms.

For starters:
  • Higher pixel-density display
  • Magnification that actually adds more detail from the sensor and doesn't just pixel-double
  • Faster refresh rate (or lower latency, or whatever that delay is)
  • Shorter (or no) blackout on shutter actuation

And I'm not even thinking too hard about it!
- Shooting data display
- Histogram overlay
- Larger display

Lot's of ways to improve Live-view without considering AF.

Isn't that caused by the SR? After all, SR is working in Live View mode (if the switch is on the ON position). This may look like lag.

I think everyone agrees that LV will be improved on the new camera.

If for no other reasons just because the K20D one is the worst LV implementation of any DSLR today.

All the talk about fast contrast detect AF is nice but... let's have contrast detect AF first!

Don't forget the processing. Your using the sensor and if I remember correctly it's not just a simple "capture" when you push shutter button. Shutter lag seems to be the major problem.
Sensor must be "flushed" then primed. Same time the shutter has to be closed. Then opened again for exposure. all of this takes a lot more time then having the sensor ready and using a separate path for the phase detect....
Things are never as simple as they appear.

Yep! I'm all for tethered shooting!
It's always nice to view what you've shot in a much larger screen to approximate the printed output.

And understand that in the interview he says that Limiteds will match the new camera. This doesn't mean that the design of the camera will match the new Limiteds, it is more a point out that the new camera will be small and compact. Pentax are already saying that the K-m matches the Limiteds well, and it has no Limited-influenced design. It is all about size. .
No. It clearly says it is about quality feel, attention to details and pride of ownership. It clearly spell "Limited" finish to me....

Thats how I'm reading it - I'm thinking modern day Leica M2.....(just not a rangefinder and hopefully a bit cheaper). Perhaps a silver accented body and some new silver editions of the pancakes? Would be nice! I have all the old LTDs in silver so I will be very happy.

wondering, a) what's wrong with what you are using, b) why not the IR remote? (if I'm understanding what you mean by tethered shooting correctly)

Pretty sure there referring to using your computer/monitor to compose/preview/shoot the image.....

Tethered is different than remote triggered, which is what the IR remote does. Tethered shooting means having the camera hooked up to a computer while shooting, and each shot taken automatically transfers to the computer.

They can. But they don't allow you to see what the camera see.
