I think this is pentax related news, not a rumor, just a fact.

I follow prices on lots of equiptment, various brands and was just clearing out some old bookmarks. Check this out, I had no clue this used FA 200mm f4 macro sold for $3,500:

Pentax FA* 200mm f/4.0 Macro IF ED Lens 200 f4.0 f4 SMC - eBay (item 260366900172 end time Feb-23-09 08:56:28 PST)
After waiting and looking since 2007, I finally found an FA* 200/F4 Macro for $3,899.00 US.
I have read all the posts re for and against. Basically either I buy it or let it go - and then regret it at leisure! Should be shipped to me within the next 2/3 days. I missed out on the recent ebay offering - it went within minutes of being listed! This one is in pristine condition and has the soft case to go with it - could say it was, as new. Last one I saw, and missed was back in 2005 and was for sale in Germany for $1500 US - This is one lens that will not stay on the shelf! Nor will it be abused....

Good for You!

Hands On Experience always trumps reviews. You could wait a lifetime to know whats up with hard to find, due to low production numbers photogear. Just wasting your time wondering.

"Basically either buy it or let it go - and then regret it at leisure!"

Well said!

Enjoy The Ride

The pain will go away... eventually...

That FOV with 200mm is a wonderful -- like another world. Once you master the focal length and your technique is honed, you'll have amazing images using this focal length. It's not an easy lens to learn, but once you hit your stride and really start seeing what it's capable of, a deep satisfaction with your images is almost a given...

Regards,
Marc

My problem with macro with 100mm or more (on APS-C so FOV of 150->300mm on 24x36) is that in Belgium Sun is rare. When therr's sun, there's wind as well.

How the heck can you guys take picture of a flower with such FOV and have no movement blur ?

I can't do it...

Mmm tripod I have but probably that the standard head is the culprit.
Flash: good idea but I will have to do with HSS/wireless and without ring flash for now.

Anyway, thank for advices I know were to look for improvements

You can never have enough gear - so much photography, so little time...

Tripod, cabled remote, taken at 1/60 sec.:

It was a very, very windy day - I was patient and waited for the lull in the wind. You can see a bit of movement blur on the stamens. There always is a lull in the wind's velocity!

Another option (not because I am a member of Wimberley Professional Services): try using a Wimberley Plamp... Wimberley Professional Photo Gear - The Plamp.

I am giving away 2 of them at my macro class at the end of April... Class - Arkansas Photography Class Photo Digital - Free Classes to Club Members - Indoor and Outdoor

Cheers,
Marc
