I wouldn't mind if Hoya spins-off the camera division.

Hoya's CEO Suzuki him has been without interest to the camera, him was just one rapacious merchant venomous. 2004-2006, Hoya's Suzuki wants to buy Pentax's lifecare Division, but Pentax's CEO wants to sell one entire Pentax, and then 2007's Pentax erupted up one anti-mergers war which was between Pentax CEO and board of directors.

The future 2 years after, would Hoya keep Pentax Imaging?
Selling the medical division to Hoya and camera division to Samsung would have net the biggest profit, but I don't know how many Japanese personal will Samsung would keep once it have control of the K mount.

Having spent several years studying Japanese, I have great respect for people who learn English as I think it's one of the more difficult languages to cope with. But I gotta tell ya that this sentence makes absolutely no sense to me...

me too. on the English.
I did not attentive to study English as my young times. my young times I takes a SuperME all day long.

Also, the Nikkei News is one best top of business & technology media in Japan, which has a better credit standing than Wall Street's newspaper of US. The Japanese would not doubt it.

You're jumping to conclusions here: First, they've already moved production abroad, this may be people that already have been made "redundant". Second, the cut in development may be entirely in the P&S department, where the X70 demonstrates that they're buying most of the technology elsewhere.

Blah. I'm still shooting with a 50-year-old Spotmatic, a 33-year-old K1000, and a 30-year-old ME Super. Even if Pentax disappeared today, there's enough gear on the used market to keep me happy for the rest of my life. Even my *istDL will still be producing great images in 2020 (assuming it doesn't break). No worries.
I agree, the IQ of DSLR matches the best from 135 mm film. A low iso cam like my K10, and later a high Iso like K20 could easily meet my needs for years to come. (Should a K110 / K20 break, they could probably be had for a song on Ebay som time from now).
Would I want more ? Sure.
Would I need it ? Likely not, a lot of different photographic areas that would improve my images more than a new gadget

I see your point, there have been many situations before, where Nikkei News haven’t impressed

Your right, i think itエs up to Pentax to those were to cut.
But it sounds bad if it is in DSLR department, i think K-m/K2000 is a success,
and if the 2 DSLR that shall come in summer are as good as they say they are
they can take market shares. But if they donエt have personal to make good
followers...
If Pentax want to be bigger itエs not a good way to cut down personal.
But thatエs that company's do in low market to please stockholders.

Maybe they have some "dead meat" and some almost-retired personell anyway, so they won't be hurting their core development teams at all. On the other hand, now is a good time to hire qualified staff...

Frankly, everyone's cutting everything. Chances are they'd rather not.

Heck, last month I read a piece where Canon's encouraging employees to have more kids cause they can't cover the pension plan, or some such.

I'd presume all this kind of stuff is just about battening down the hatches, so to speak, to see what happens next.

The article didn't mention anything about the manufacturing jobs, just some white collar positions. It looks like they are getting rid of the deadwood.
Deadwood like "product development" ?
