Bought a 50mm f/1.4 a week ago for $199 and it is still listed for that price from a local retail chain.

Well, to you folk way up in the Gatineau, sure, most everything in the south is London-ish.

As I understand it the 18-250 is discontinued, so all the stuff in the retail chain has presumably already been purchased from Pentax Japan and therefore the price should be stable.

Broadway Camera in Vancouver shows C$919 for the DA* 50-135.

Pentax smc DA * 50-135mm F2.8 ED (IF) SDM : Broadway Camera, Your Specialty Camera Store in Vancouver B.C, Canada.

but they don't have stock so my guess is that price won't be there after tomorrow.

I fortunatley have one - and I paid about $700 US when the Cdn Dollar was almost at par ....

I think any LBA I have will be limited to the Market Place or if I happen to in the US ... my DA*50-135 has appreciated more in 6 monhts than my entire retirement portfolio has in 10 years (really that is not something I should be laughing at .....)

DA* 50-135mm f2.8 Price Up 80%

This will bring tears...

I just checked the Vistek site now that their store is closed for the day. Their list price on a DA* 50-135mm f2.8 has jumped from $999.99 to $1,799.99! Egad.

$850 for the 18-250!! Holy this is bad. I bought mine for ~$550 when I got the K200d last June. I love the lens but I really don't see it being worth that much.

Yep Henry's is up too now. Yikes! The spree is over!

I saw these on eBay from some seller in Sask--no affiliation with the seller, but looks like no taxes either?

Pentax smc DA 50-135mm f/2.8 ED IF SDM Lens BLOWOUT! - (eBay.ca item 160325438545 end time 01-May-09 01:33:00 EDT)

[edit--$670 US BIN for that eBay link]

Last time I was in Henry's Toronto store they had 2 16-50's and 1 50-135--their prices are still low on the used ones and they have a 90-day warranty (in case a "used" 16-50 is a really a "screwed" 16-50):

Well, we knew it was coming... but I really feel sorry for those Pentax users that do not frequent this forum. They'll switch to N***n now because the same lenses are cheaper! (Or is SDM and a rubber gasket worth $750?)

Glad I ordered my 50-135 last week at the old price... now if it only would arrive and put my mind at ease!

I read Canadian backorders will not be fullfilled at 3-31-09 price

I hope it works out for you.

I read somewhere, maybe in another thread in here that any pentax lens not in dealers hands on 3-31-09 or "backordered", the old price would not be honored. Nikon did same thing on their late 2008-2009 country by country price increases, in not honoring both unpaid and paid for backorders. Last Fall canon did simialar except they cancelled all orders not deliverable before price increase and made dealers get back inline to reorder. Canon did a 3% price increase, not the 18% to 40% Nikon and Pentax are implementing.

I think Pentax thinks 50-135mm 2.8 SDM is really a "75-202mm" 2.8 and the now want to price it accordingly. $1750 Canadian is insane money for it , or Loonies. But its likely one of pentax best SDM so maybe they just want top dollar for it? After conversion my Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS purchase from March 2008 ran me same money as 50-135mm 2.8 SDM is priced at today. and my IS 200mm has 200mm reach ,not 135mm cropped edges, isolated view "202mm"

I've heard nothing about Pentax USA price increases. Pentax is doing a great job remaining quiet if a 40% price increase is due here too.

Houses are cheaper, cars are cheaper, computers are cheaper, yet camera equiptment is more expensive. I sure don't want to spend 40% more on something I haven't bought up till now.
