new roadmap update (645 Digital)

Interchangeable Lenses : Digital Cameras : Imaging Systems Division : PENTAX

I know it was too much to hope to see the DA★ 30mm back on the list. Oh well. Instead, there's an un-detailed 645 ultra-wide, plus a 55mm f/2.8 (which presumably will be the normal lens?).

Meanwhile, the DA★ 60-250 f/4 is still "Spring 2009" — good luck with that. And there's still the vague "DA Super Telephoto".

so what this is saying that we can expect at most 2 new 35mm lenses (60-250 and Super Tele) between now and the 645D launch in 2010

Not really, How long did it take for them to get the 15mm limited to market?
they announced it not too long ago and it was available fairly quickly.

OK, so I know next to nothing about MF, but isn't 80mm considered the "normal" lens? I.e., an FOV equivalent of 50mm lens on FF/135 camera bodies?

If this 55/2,8 is going to be the "normal" lens, as opposed to a wide-angle (that's what, e.g., CZJ Flektogon 50, CZ Distagon 50, etc., are considered, no?), does that mean this is going to be like a "cropped" medium format? Kind of like what APS-C is to FF?

In which case, I must ask, what's the effin point?

Yes it is cropped, it has always been but it still is way bigger than FF.
BTW, all other competitors (Mamiya & co) are cropped as well.
I think it is around 1.3x from base 645 area.

Actually, it means that the people having a heart for the 645D project are still on board -- and never gave up...

Ah. OK. So let's see, if I remember correctly, 135 is about a 1.5x crop of 645? So I guess this 645D is more like the "APS-H" of MF?

I guess that means something. God knows I'd happily take an APS-H K30D :-)

Not quite... 24x36 has a diagonal of 4,33 centimeters.
Cropped 645 would be 5,4 centimeters.

In terms of surface (considering probable 45x30 sensor):

645D: 13,5 square centimeters
24x36: 8,4 square centimeters

Quite a difference, quite a number of pixels you can squeeze there

REmember that you multiply dimensions when calculating surface. It is almost two times as much area as FF 24x36 sensor.

645 film is 41.5 x 56
135 film is 24 x 36

The standard DMF has been 36 x 48, though one of the newer backs (I forget which one) is 41.5 x 56, and I think the new leica is 30 x 45. In case you're wondering 36 x 48 is twice the area of 135. It would be very unlikely that Pentax would move away from the 3/4 ratio of standard 645.

In my film days I shot Mamiya 645 and a 55mm lens was the equivalent of 34mm on 135. I'm not sure what the equivalent for a 55mm would be on a 36 x 48. Perhaps someone can figure out the ratio with the above numbers.
