It's an ugly camera and will probably be used mostly to take pictures I guess...

Hopefully this is not what they meant when they talked about releasing cameras for the "outdoor photographers"...

as ugly as Leica M8 Safari, i would say.

i see this olive K-m as successor of pentax Auto 110 Safari model.

Maybe Pentax is going to actually going to try to market in the US... Where I live, I'd expect this to sell over the K20D or D90 at the same price (there could be optional skins which depict "Calvin" pissing on the Ford logo or the Chevy logo to appeal to different marketing segments)...

It would look pretty awesome on my 65b.

Hey, that's cute. (I like olive cameras, myself. ) Seems it'd make more sense on a weather-sealed body, but there's probably a pretty decent market for this: get the outdoorsey crowd where they shop. I can see places that love to push camoflage of all kinds getting interested in selling these.

According to the OP's link it "has a 10.2Mpix censor".

Perhaps this is a privacy feature to appeal to the target market: Michigan Militia neo-nazi's who don't want their skinhead porn found on their combat camera's SD drive?

Good thing it has the orange stripe so hunter's won't accidentally mistake you for a deer.

The White KM must have been a hit.

What: a marketing ploy
Use: to keep Pentax in the news and sell cameras at higher prices despite lack of any technical changes.

I don't think it looks that bad, though I think the sealed K200D might have been a better choice. I'm hoping that somebody out there will be able to create aesthetic monstrosities by using white DA-L "L-glass" lens kits with the olive bodies and vice-versa.

What they should have done is made all the buttons match too so when its newbie purchasers ask how to use M42 glass in the forums and we tell them to use the green button they can reply "which one?". :-)

over here, white K-m sells for exactly the same price as the black one, and it is readily available, in every major electronics supermarket.
appears it's not limited edition at all.

Pentax is missing the boat, marketing wise. If their ad people would hang out on a few gun or knife forums they would know that they could probably double the sales of the regular version if they advertised it as "Tactical Black".

Seems they produce the K-m in lots of thousands.

Using a different paint to color the plastic every time.

Assume they earn $100 per body (sells for as low as $340, say $300 for Pentax, say $250 for Pentax JPN, $150 to produce it). Makes a win of $100,000 per color. Just enough to keep one more engineer on board...

I find it ironic that the only Pentax body made to look like outdoor gear is the only Pentax body *without* weather sealing. These guys really make me scratch my head lately!

the Olive K-M is limited to 1,000 copies and will only be available in Japan. I'm thinking this is more aimed at collectors rather than outdoorsy types. I think it's great Pentax keeps releasing these limited edition body kits. This one looks also quite nice, too.
