Am I alone for not wanting one of these? I don't really see the need for it.

what really ask me is if the dynamic rage of this MF camera does really a difference between the oder normal reflex. I mean further the big dimension of photos I can see with my eye the difference of DR with a photo made with a normal sensor?

Do I want one.

Yes I do and wanting is a good thing. The alternatives for 40 megapixels is much more money. this format is an important tool for large prints and the amount of photons captured will give reduced noise for the largest prints available in the digital world. however getting one is harder for me than most. the exchange rate for the US dollar these days is depressed a list price of $9999 equals 36,714NIS and that is about two months income here so it is a huge chunk of money now. However i have found wait a little while the price comes down and then I will add it to my collection of digital hardware and hopefully the cost/benefit will show that it could pay for itself in a year. It is an investment and not taken lightly.

Yes Baby!

Do I want one......Hell YES!...................
The resolution, the sensor size!.......Great with large image scale refractors.

Can you justify one........Maybe if you are a fashion photographer...........

..........Amateur astronomers buy $10,000- PLUS CCD imagers...................

.............................It is Christmas comming up...................

But you could have a digital Hasselblad Medium format for that sort of money!!!!!!

..mmmmmmm.....

I would if photography was my primary source of income easily. I spend 15k a year on tools of my trade as it is.

Need? What's 'need' got to do with it? Sheesh...if you're going to introduce 'need' into the discussion, you're going to knock out 99% of the responders!

So, Ben, would this help you in your work? If not, do you want it just for its capabilities? And if it will help you in your work, why not get it? Surely you could deduct it as a business expense, no?

I think I'd like to have a 645D, but I have concerns about AF, actual usefulness of existing 645 lenses, and "teething problems". Too bad the most attractive alternative is more than 2x the cost + new lenses to boot... But I'm a Pentax fan, so I have hopes for the new baby!

645D Af is far better than other MF cameras. I tried it and was very surprised.
645 lenses are known to be very good with only a couple ones being OK.
I wouldn't be concerned about lenses.

Thanks... I was thinking of the video interview on Luminous Landscape that implied some P645 film lenses were less suitable optically for the digital camera... unspecified reasons but I assume chromatic aberrations and such. I have a pretty comprehensive group of those, thus some concern over usability.

Also noting the current problems that some are having with the S2 camera's AF. Very glad to hear Pentax is ahead on that front!

Hi! Here in Pentaxforums is subforum for medium format cameras - Pentax Medium Format: 645, 6x7, 645D - PentaxForums.com
I think in threads of last few weeks you can get all the answers from existing owners of 645D - about AF, MF, usefulness of existing 645 and 67 lenses, how to tether and many others. These all questions are discussed there.
