Pentax Phillipines is hiring

Just picked this up on the Google News radar:

“On top of this, Pentax (Cebu Philippines Corp.), the maker of camera models, just told me they are hiring 200 more production workers,” he told yesterday.

sorry gazonk - english not your first language ??

it is supposed to mean exactly what it says - I wonder what sort of staff discount you get??

to explain for you - I wonder how much discount off the sales price Pentax staff qualify for.
In most companies, staff are able to buy the products they make at a cheaper price.

He means how much cheaper you can get cameras that you make if you're a production worker Funny, in the meantime, the biggest distributor of Pentax here has most (if not all) of their branches closed...

I'm actually quite familiar with the generic 'you' in English, I think I got confused because it was so unlikely that either you or I (located in completely different parts of the world from SE Asia) would apply for a job in the Phillipines

Well, local distributors here have always been lazy to market Pentax and make it competitive with other camera brands. No surprise to see only few people buy Pentax in the same country where it is made. The few remaining distributors are still charging $1000 for a body-only K20D.

this means that there's a new camera model coming and production is ramping up. There's a sign already that a new model will be release around the summer...

I agree with PDO, I hope it's just a new camera line and that Pentax is not moving the "Limited Line" to the Phillipines.

Economic Recovery

The global economy is about to surprise on the upseide. Recovery will be stronger and sooner than currently thought. Pentax is preparing to sell consumer discretionary goods into that strength.

This, of course, will cause inflation, interest rate increases to fight inflation - and another (interst rate) recession following the end of this credit recession.

Look to the 1979 - 1982 economic series for lessons (not identical, just patterns) and to the 1972 - 1975 US market history for indications.

All DSLR bodies are Assembled in the Philippines. The more recent FA, FAJ and DA lenses are assembled in Vietnam.
