New 12.6-373mm f1.9-2.7 DA* fisheye/zoom

That just-announced Pentex 12.6-373mm f1.9-2.7 DA* fisheye/superzoom lens sounds pretty awesome - especially at $703 USD list! Pretty darn fast lens! I'm dying to find out how the new liquid lens technology works; should help a lot with image stabilisation (even with SR bodies). IR mode should be wild! Looks pretty small, and it's supposed to be amazingly light; word is construction is pretty solid, though. The new industry-leading 11-year warranty is just icing on the cake. The new glass is supposed to ship April 31; no preorders page on Amazon last time I looked (I've got a JIVE script that will place my order as soon as it appears).

I wonder how it'll compare with the Tamrun 14-405mm f2.3 APO EX DG HSM zoom, especially for a pretty amazing $627 list (here in the US).

Where in the range does it transition from fisheye to rectilinear? If it's not free of distortion by the time it hits 14 degrees then I have no choice but to declare this an absolute ripoff. I mean, $703 hard-earned dollars in the midst of recession and it's not rectilinear at 14 degrees? If that were the case, you'd think they could at least make it an f0.95 or something. I thought pentax was supposed to be about value!

(and it better be weathersealed!)

But this lens is from pentex, so Pentax is innocent!

Btw. I also heard today that Pentax will release a Tampax-branded pink K-m!

Ben, beauty lies in the eyes of beholder. You can turn ugly duck into a elegant swan with a pin hole camera
