Pentax 645d do you like it?

well I know that it's not out yet, and still is a question that it will be out ever..
but from what i saw in the pictures shared in this forum i want to ask you all:

do you like how it's looking? design, shape wise..
will it look similar to what it's looking now, when it will be released?

i don't want so seem arrogantic or antipentaxian, but for me personally:

it looks awful. the shape is so not contemporary, it looks very well unbalanced, i just hope that they'll redo it completely.

what about you?

I find the design very cute and more "k20ish" than the prior prototype.

the shape is very 645-like, it follows all medium format design patterns.

think about pentax 645N film camera - 645D looks like modernized film camera, and i find it way better than reinventing the wheel.

i like it!

Honestly, what are you hoping for in terms of your redesign?
I don't think its very easy to make a good looking medium format camera...

Leaf:

Hasselblad:

Phase one:

I think the 645D is actually pretty nice looking for a medium format digital.

I do like the 645D though Hasselblad isn't too bad looking either...
at the end of the day it matters how it'll perform, not how it looks

I agree it's ergonomy and performance that really counts but it doesn't hurt if camera looks good. Speaking of looks, I wouldn't like any other way. Other cameras in the above pictures look like some weapon from Star Trek.

I wonder if it will gave a wooden handle accessory

well..

it was interesting to read your opinions.
the Hasselblad looks best of all of these big guys..
i think look is important.. especially in these days, it's a photography... it's about looks, when you photograph a model and he has a twisted face because of the weird camera you are holding.. it's distracting..
of course the main thing is how it performs, then ergonomics, but the shape and looks is also important..
but as i see the hasselblad managed to put both performance and good look in one body.
also, canikon ff bodies, look pretty attractive.. i think in today's world to be competitive all matters.

it would be nice to compare side by side previews Pentax 645d prototype and the current one, what was changedm does anyone has both pictures?

Totally agree! The Pentax is the most professional looking by my terms, I do not understand why Hasselblad while making the most expensive and advanced digital medium formats today choose to design them as ugly sci fi toys? But by far the ugliest 645s are the Mamiyas. Which is a mystery to me as their 67 cameras are all fantastic.

The one negative side of the 645D is that it apparently cannot change backs, which means you have to buy a completely new camera in the future to upgrade, then again - it might not be the biggest problem...

Isn't there a picture of the 645D that show that it has a door in the back and something that looks like a exchangeable sensor module?

There have been a lot of design-studies in the past and i find the newest prototype actually very good designwise. I don't understand how someone likes the Hassy-look, definitely not the material surface/texture i would want from a professional tool, and yes, I have worked with the H2D in my job. It's definitely a matter of taste and Pentax did it right for me ;-)

The 645D cam posted by zplus is not the latest design.

To clear things up a little bit:

- 2005 Pentax presented three designs to get some feedback from prospective
costumers.

2005 Prototypes

- 2007 the chosen design showed the possibility to open the back and change the sensor

2007 Prototype

- 2009 the cam has some design tweaks

2009 Prototype

There is no removable back, but it is said, that the sensor and even the AA-filter can be changed by service.
