Same 14,6MP sensor than K20 but optimized for DR and noise.

Higher precision AF for fast lenses. I don't think we'll ever see high speed/fps AF (ala Nikon/Canon) from Pentax but precision is the most important parameter to me.

Bigger VF for manual focusing and general comfort.

I would have loved a FF but it's clearly not coming so... apparently my 5D is here to stay and I have to think of Pentax as a complement rather than as my main system.

Then maybe a rather compact camera retaining the nice K10/K20 ergonomics for street/casual shooting would be nice.

I would love a larger viewfinder! And also better dynamic range (which already is quite good!) and lower noise. at high ISO.

And for last, full metal chassi!

this post is created to make answers like:

I want:
FF Camera
12800 ISO (without any noise at all)
Faster Fokus then canon and nikon together
and at least 10f/s (im still happy with 8)

ah..and I forgott one thing.

You have to be able take pictures with it....well that was pretty well much it. :ugh:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In person. Im very happy with my k20d. It performs very well.

I would only change one thing. a little bit faster AF and maybe a even bigger viewfinder... and that's it.
I want pentax to still make it a camera, not a electric hybride with sanwitch-toaster and shower included.

I would love pentax to correct the small things even better in k20d insteed of build in full HD-video or more resolution.

It will be funny see what's happening. I don't think anyone would mind here get a D-pentax-MX all in metal, and a bigger body to grab around....in the end, pentax is still a film brand

I thought that "dear Pentax" was the place for wishful thinking. Since I 'm already writing the post I might as well write down my wish list. Compared to K20D I'd like:

-Same sensor size and pixel count
-Even better noise performance
-Even better DR
-Smaller and lighter body
-AA batteries

- better high iso performance (low noise)
- faster & more accurate AF
- x-synchro at least 1/250
- better resolution 3" LCD
- FPS 5 & more
- NO smaller body (lighter could be, but rather bigger - why small body when you cannot comfortably use buttons, i don't need another "compact" camera
- wireless connectivity for shooting in studio
- better flash exposure compensation directly from body (like button + e-dial)

agree with you, only add a better DR, even 4fps would be enough for me.

I also am interested is it possible to make a camera with built in ND filters? pentax is good at landscapes, why don't they make such filters built in?
i think it would be a great feature to have..
you'd have the for every lens you attach..

Metal body/chassis.
Compact body.
Bigger, brighter viewfinder.
Faster and more accurate AF.
New image processing engine (PRIME II??) for less noise and faster FPS.
Weathersealed.
HD Video (1080p.)
Dual card slots.

If Pentax releases something like that, it'd be the last digital camera I'd buy. I'd throw the rest of my money into lenses and film for a full-manual rangefinder.

What you say is the result of shake reduction. Just turn it off.

Nice feature could be showing hyperfocal distance for current lens & aperture somewhere (lcd or viewfinder)

1. Better dynamic range, especially in highlights
2. New improved AF system.
3. Improved high ISO, make ISO 3200 useable like current ISO800 on K20D
4. Improved PTTL.
5. More FPS, 5 would be enough for me.
6. Keep K20D size body
7. Battery grip with AF button
8. Programmable button instead of RAW button. I would make it "Drive mode" dedicated button
9. Possibility of video would be nice

Ooh, nice. I also want that.

I think that like most of us he wants to use his great Pentax film lenses. and not Canon's or Nikon's
Well, Pentax literature for their DSLRs do mention that you can use your old Pentax film lenses on current Pentax DSLR offerings.

That said, I'm pretty happy with my new K20D. What I'd want in the next offing would be:

- bigger viewfinder (but the existing one is actually good, comparing it to the K200D I replaced)
- faster AF and better algorithms for continuous AF
- better live view implementation (at least allow us to change and view settings while live view is active)
- for Pentax to translate the 21 FPS burst mode of the K20D to a better compromise, like, say, 6 MP for 7 FPS (better if they altogether bump up the FPS count while still being able to shoot at full resolution)
- better menu system (now this is just being picky on my part)
- better high ISO performance (doesn't have to be D3-beating performance, just good enough to be able to use ISO 6400 without reservations, and 12800 for smaller prints)
- better SR (I have come to be really dependent on this one)

And that's it. I'm not pushing for FF, but if it does come without raising the MSRP to exorbitant heights, then I'm cool with it. Not a necessity for me, though.

In conjunction with future cameras, I do hope Pentax does make a line of amateur-photographer-budget-friendly sealed lenses.

What I think we can expect is:

- 14.6mp re-worked Samsung sensor
- ~5fps mechanical
- AF will be cited specifically as improved even if still SAFVOX VIII
- Video with sound (I would say 60@40 in favour of 720p over 1080p)
- Contrast detect AF in live-view
- Sealed
- Smaller body, therefore probably 2.7 inch screen but higher resolution
- 1/6000 or 1/8000 shutter
- 14 bit capable
- Grip with integrated GPS and WiFi
- support for SDXC

What I think is plausible but more likely than not to be absent (i.e. 49:51 rather very unlikely to happen):

- Metal body
- OLED screen
- Implementation Pentax patent on e.l. screen in viewfinder for live histogram etc
- Completely overhauled AF system with new hardware not just algoithims
- Panning support in SR
- on board wifi
- on board GPS
- 1.0x Viewfinder
- Options for faster frame rates by reading data off the sensor a la the 21fps mode in K20D but at higher resolutions, e.g. 6mp at 10fps etc

An new AF system is a must for me, higher FPS may require them to upgrade the whole shutter box.
An enhanced SR
A new image processor
More stable metering system
A smaller body, as we can expect

well... I am not looking for new fancy stuffs, just make it more reliable and efficient.

And one more really important thing: keep the high ISO noisier but retain a lot more detail just like the current K20D approach! Don't follow others!!

- 16MP sensor with slightly better high ISO noise control
- 5fps or more and improved AF in low-light and AF tracking
- much better liveview with contrast detect, better magnification, no locking of exposition controls
- 3" 920k LCD, articulated if possible (in which case the old 2.7" 230k is OK).
- Faster AF
- Video is OK but no Mic (I'd guess it would be difficult with weathersealing)
- Slightly smaller and lighter but with a deeper grip (à la K-m)
- Better AF
- Less lag
- Faster reviewing and writing
- Deeper buffer
- Faster AF
- Faster SR (it takes too long for the SR indicator to show ready).
- 100% coverage VF like the D300
- Keep the same Li-On batteries but offer a grip that accept AA
- Improved AF
- More AF points
- Better precision AF
- Cheaper of course
- Silent mode shooting à la Canon in Liveview
- and finally:
Better AF...
