I also updated and obviously I can't say if it's faster because we are talking about fractions of a second anyway. But it seem more consistent (about the same time for the "hand" to appear in the VF).

Hope it helps.

First impression:
SR seems to lock in faster. locks now even if AF isn't ready. (in some conditions)

Greetings

Can you upgrade it through Pentax Photo Browser or Photo Lab while the camera is attached, or do you have to do manual installation (I'm bad at this route directory junk...)?

if they improve the AF instead of the SR, it will be better.

Just copy the ".bin" file on your SD Card. Do not move it into any folder (eg DCIM).
Thats all.

Faster AF?

I have to say, I'm noticing faster AF on my K20 after the firmware upgrade. Is anyone else finding this too?

Unsure on the SR change as yet.

Can't confirm that. only as i said before, the SR locks in faster than before.

It, turns out that the Darkframe-behavior has changed. If set to "Auto" no Darkframe will be processed at shutter speeds slower than 10sec!

Has Pentax usually listed everything they've changed in firmware upgrades? They mention only SR.

BTW, could somebody in power over here please correct the subject to 1.03.

Thanks, successfully updated!

That's very interesting, about the dark-frame subtraction...

Sounds like it's safe enough to upgrade.

Here's the link to the 1.0.1 firmware if you need to downgrade, I guess (assuming you can, of course).

okay, we moved up to 10s now. great. so the sensor is better than the sony one even in this respect, thus NO reason not to allow me to turn off dfs. why the hell does it have to be so complicated, please release 1.04 with the ability to disable dfs altogether, and stop teasing us, PLEASE!

happy to hear sr was improved, and maybe af too. but how about us tripod shooters?

If I were Pentax and found a way to improve AF with firmware, I would do so WITHOUT publicizing it. Saying that you fixed a problem is a de facto admission that there was a problem. I don't consider the AF characteristics a problem, some people do. Regardless, I think it best in (from Pentax's point of view) to make any improvements without any fanfare.

I too think the AF speed improved, but I am open to the possibility that it is a placebo effect. I would also allow for the possibility that if there is an improvement it was an "unintended consequence" of the SR improvement; i.e. faster SR = less SR processor time allowing for quicker autofocus, but that is pure and absolute guessery on my part.

But wouldn't the situation be the same for SR and yet they're saying it's improved.
