1. Huge viewfinder with 1.2x magnification, long eye relief and a longer eyecup to block the sun

2. Flash sync speed of 1/500s

3. The missing aperture coupler
1. Put O-ME53 and it helps.
2. Do you really need it?
3. :ugh:

1. A usable video function.

2. Improvements to AF (faster in both modes, capable of tracking in C-AF).

3. Aperture coupling. My current best 50 is a PITA to use.

just a thought: if i am not mistaking, those 1/500 flash sync nikons do not truly have a 1/500 fast shutter, they actually have a very slow one (closer to 1/70 or so, iirc), and use an "electronic shutter" on the sensor directly, what is the sync speed of the hihghest class nikons, and why?

the problem with digital i think is that it is hard to make a reliable shutter that is so fast (above 1/250), it is harder than with film because a 20k actuations film shutter tended to last for a lifetime, a digital one might last for a year or two with some users. i think the best we can hope for is 1/250, and, perhaps, an alternative mode for flash use (which would use a "digital" shutter, and would allow sync up to 1/4000 if you so desire). edit: pentax already made the first step at playing with this idea: the burst mode on the k20d uses that idea (the mechanical shutter is always open), so this is not out of the question. anybody tried sync speed in that mode on the k20d, btw?

video: while i am the first to say "dslrs are for photos, not for video", the truth is that 1. pentax was the first to make the step (that burst mode on the k20d was obviously testing the water) and 2. the first to release a decently priced slr with a smart and unrestrictive video implementation will _CLEANUP_, videographers out there wnat a decent sensor, shallow dof, good low light capability, manual control, and are already ready to give up the form factor, the video camera design, and so on, in order to get that without spending 10k bucks and up; the fact that it would be k-mount (backwards compatibility) would be a bonus.

so (i cannot believe i am saying this) i hope pentax has had the time to include and refine video too, and is about to rock that particular boat

Oh and I think I predict* that on the 07th of May...... we will get something great!!!. Something NEW!

*warning, all predictions liable to change and all based on the fact the camera has a 7 in its name.... Anyone else?
Darn It.
I hate quoting myself for novelty value. I also hate being wrong. Unless something gets tossed in for the lions before the end of today.
Come one Pentax. Throw us a frickin bone here.

Just to keep things going, if you could have only 3 new features or capabilities on the K-7, what would they be, (in order)?
1) 1/500 Synch but 1/250 with ISO down to 50 would be a livable alternative

2) Zero noise at ISO 1600

3) Faster auto focus

hmm... me likes that a LOT!

Zero @ 1600 could very likely imply acceptable ISO at 3200 and even usable @ 6400!!

If this happens, maybe i'll finally be able to retire my *Ist DL, that I am only keeping for it's ISO performance (and it is also small too...)

I hate saying it but that is Nikon D700/D3 territory. I don't think Samsung/Pentax were able to refine that CMOS so much. I do hope you're right tho. Just be cautious and don't get your hopes up too high, because in the end you'll probably be saying and predicting noisless ISO1600 so much that you will actually start believing that the K-7 truly is noisless at ISO1600.

Don't expect anything and you will be pleasantly surprised when it finally comes.

As far as PentaxPoke's question goes ... I think Pentax should improve the following things first:

1. Extend ISO to 50

2. Refine the sensor so it has better ISO performance (better control over long exposure and high ISO noise)

3. Better focusing system (speed is fine as long as there's adequate light) ... the 11-point layout is great but it should be upgraded to at least 21 points and extended a bit (covering more of the frame)

I know the second point is kind of hard to achieve when you have ISO ranges from 50 to 6400 but I think they can manage. Oh and PLEASE don't make intermediate ISO values pushed or pulled values of full ISO values (ex. ISO 640 being pulled ISO 800 or ISO 250 being pushed ISO 200). I don't know if that is even possible (due to sensor limits).
