1. The real machine has been seen
2, Not a successor of K20D
3, The same level of surprise as K10D
4, Improved CMOS from K20D
5, PRIME ---> PRIME 2
6, The noise control has 100% improvement ?
7, The AF has great improvement
8, VF is worthy "waiting"
9, Functions from other rivals are included
10, THe price is around 150,000 to 160,000 Yen
11, THe delayed launch of DA 60-250 is due to the adjustment with new body
12, K30D will be lanuched at the end of this years. 645D is the first priority.

So this means that the starting price will be at about 1100 euros, and just when we have a significant price drop - which I guess is at around Christmas - We're gonna be "teased" with the K30D...

What I wonder however is whether the K-7 is actually the begining of another line of SLRs, like a "sport-adventure" series, while the K30+ series becomes the high-end line.

The bright side is that we already have this K30D thread started for that time!

There will not be k30d. From interviews of pentax people over the past half year (John Carlsson (USA), some german manager and some managers from Japan), the new k-7 camera will be replacement of k20d, but not direct replacement, this new camera will be more advanced (class little bit up). And for the Christmas season there will be replaced k200d camera. There will not be direct replacement of k20d.

I think you can turn that up a notch: €1300 body only and €1400 with kit lens seems more in line for starting MSRP.

If we indeed get the kind of material described in the various "reasonable" rumors (1/8000s/X 1/250s, improved AF, improved IQ, nice video mode with good contrast AF in a compact weather sealed body) it's a very fair price.

Yes, probably. If you include VAT and import taxes your estimate is more realistic.

And I do agree that it seems like a fair price.

1- Well we know we've seen to some degree what the K-7 will look like
2- yes this is a single digit series = higher than the K20D so not a replacement but higher up
3- We hope
4- we know this but how much improved?
5- good any details anywhere? This would also say the new engine can handle video better if the processing bandwidth is faster and probably more FPS in normal mode.
6- humm meaning 1 stop better? less heat and less noise by default from the new cmos? Noise reduction added to the cmos? or they just added wash away all detail noise reduction settings
7- This has been said, but again how does it compare to others
8- VF must be great then
9- Video is known but what else?
10- $1500 usd or 1400 euros, hope it will drop to $1200 or so in a month so I can get it
11- does that mean the 60-250 works fast in the suspected contrast af mode?
12- K30D will be lower spec'ed than the K-7 so fine by me. This also explains why Pentax exec's say that the next model will be a K200D replacement as the K20D is now in that spot price wise so while the K30D will be as high or higher spec'ed than the K20D it will take the K200d's spot.

Just out of interest I checked the contacts on my DA* 60-250mm and they are exactly the same as the DA* 16-50mm so if they have done something it's not very apparent. .. unless one of the contacts was not used previously.

I doubt it, a sealed kit lens is ony usefull if you happen to have lower end-sih sealed bodies. Canon and Nikon will only follow when they get sealed entry or medium level cameras. And as for example Nikon does not care too much about it (ever tried finding out which Nikkor lenses are sealed? You won't get a clear answer "Umm, err, not sure, I guess the professional lenses.." "Oh and what are the professional lenses??" "Ummm err, I guess the expensive ones, and they are not fully sealed, they provide someprotection against light rain and some dust".. (From the OFFICIAL Nikon representative in teh Netherlands)

My guess is that the frst to ollow with more affordable dslr's will be Oly, unless they are too busy with micromounts...

It is likely something to do with the lens firmware and possibly the SDM motor in the lens is different with different control/support circuitry etc.

All the SDM lenses probably already have the number of contacts to transmit/recieve the required data to and from the camera but maybe not the ability understand the commmands (or physically be able to carry them out) if you see what I mean.

nice to see a WR kit lens, that have been what the reviewers in sweden have been bashing

"its not better than its weekest link, why have a weather sealed body when you dont got a weather sealed lens"

So now they have to find something else to trash down on.

The "new K" (K7) is Pentax new "top of the line".
Before this Christmas, there will be another... yes, there is another savour for the Force. You see, they were twins but separated at birth and the next one will be made official before Christmas. They are not entirely identical, but both as the needed powers to win super stardom for Pentax.

And the "newer than the new K" body is like a K7 with K200D ergonomics, that is - fewer buttons and dials and a more beginner friendly user interface. It fills up the gap between the K7 and the K-m. It is sort of K20D with a simplified user interface in a more compact body. (similar body as the K7). You know the K10D and K100D that were combined into the K200d, and with a performance upgrade... Same thing happening again.
